Product Description

2008 release from the Grammy-winning vocalist and songwriter. Soul is the best-selling artist's sixth studio album and was created in partnership with legendary producer David Foster. The album is comprised of 12 classic Soul songs that each evokes their own drama, emotion and romance. Seal brings his unique, signature style to the album and found a great collaborative spirit working with Foster. The London-born singer first emerged from Britain's House music scene in the early '90s providing vocals and lyrics for Techno artist Adamski's 1990 hit "Killer." The Top 10 debut single, "Crazy," followed and Seal would go on to earn critical acclaim and worldwide commercial success over four albums. Seal's prodigious vocal gifts - his soaring, husky baritone that has become a signature on such hits as "Prayer for the Dying," "Kiss From a Rose," and "Don't Cry" - amplify the emotion he brings to a song.

I think I have every Seal album released. Ths is a good one that shows his voice to its best advantage.

Seal is a great entertainer, the songs are classics. What spoiled this CD for me was the production. I am a fan of the blues and expected a rougher more realistic interpretation of these great blues hits. What I got was a slick over-produced product in typical David Foster style. All the "Soul" has been wrung out of the songs. I have original versions of these great classics and prefer them warts and all to this offering.

Some of the new arrangements of old soul and R&B classics on this CD are great - especially "It's Alright" and "Knock on Wood". Seal has a wonderful voice that is perfectly suited to this kind of music. Overall my only complaint is that the CD never really jumps out at you - and seems to remain at the roughly same tempo and groove throughout.

A must-have for lovers of the old masters like Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green. Seal's beautiful voice does them justice and the arrangements are so true to the originals. How can you lose with a combination of David Foster and Seal!

Loved the cool sounds, really took me back. When an artist, especially a gifted one like Seal, does a cover of some well known tunes it is usually a treat, and this one did not disappoint.

Seal IS Soul on this CD. His renditions of Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" as well as "It's a Man's World" can stop a heartbeat. One of the best albums of the year, to be sure!
