Born to hunt and destroy…until the light of one soul reawakens his own.

Dark Souls, Book 0.5

Adrian knows he once possessed a soul, but it abandoned him the day he was murdered. The day he was reborn as a Rogue, shunned by humans and hunted by his own kind. By night he feeds the darkness inside him by finding and snuffing out corrupt souls, perfectly content to live as an outcast—until a random act of violence unites him with a woman who makes him feel.

Angelica Paxton believes everyone deserves a second chance. Even her rescuer, a mysterious stranger with hypnotic powers, an unsettling ability to invade her dreams, and a shocking secret. Much as her body wants to succumb to Adrian’s seductive charms, she can’t. Not without breaking his newly awakened heart.

Adrian swears to protect Angie from his kind, even if staying by her side means volunteering at the center where she works to reform the very souls he has vowed to crush. Even if it means abandoning the shadows for the light. Even if that light exposes the darkest threat he’s ever faced. One from which he is powerless to save her…

Warning: This book contains flying subway cars, a woman in jeopardy, a relentless villain who’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants, and a dark, sexy hero who could very well haunt your dreams and steal your heart.

Soul Thief is a prequel to the Dark Souls series by Anne Hope. I'm so glad we're getting Adrian's story now. After finishing Soul Deep, I was really curious about him. I have to say, he is my favorite so far. He's intense and feels so deeply about everything it seems, and he has this magnetism, it's no wonder Angie couldn't stay away. I almost read this book before the others in this series since it was a prequel, but I'm glad I waited and read it after book two. I feel like reading it in this order really got me ready for Adrian. The action kept right on par with the the previous two books I've read in this series so far. I'm ready for some more Adrian. Bring on Soul Chase!

Soul Thief by Anne Hope was kindly provided to me by Bewitching Book Tours for review. The

A spoiler-free summary of the story:

Adrian was murdered by his uncle shortly after his birth. Death is simply a rite of passage for a Hybrid. His soul was released and he was reborn stronger. However, he didn't join either of the soulless factions at war with each other. He became a Rogue. Now, all he wants is to be left alone by his kind. At night, he feeds on diseased souls, ridding the world of the worst of mankind.

And then Angelica Paxton is attacked by the worst of mankind.

Angie, an idealistic volunteer at a halfway house, is confused by Adrian's unnatural abilities. And Adrian is confused when Angie doesn't respond to his mind control.

Until he figures out why she's so special. And why she's in danger from his uncle, who also figures out why she's so special. Adrian has no choice but to stay close to Angie, even though he should fight the attraction he feels for her.

Especially since Angie is keeping a devastating secret from him.

My review:

Anne Hope has written yet another captivating installment in the Dark Souls series. Read on to find out why.

Anne's style is artistic. Her unique, expressive descriptions paint colorful works of art in your mind's eye. Reading her books is a pleasure, and Soul Thief is no exception.

Anne stuffed an amazing amount of character development into this novella. Adrian and Angie are fully fleshed-out people, not just characters.

Angie is a selfless young woman who wants to make a difference in the world. She's a strong, likable person. She not only makes a difference in the world, she makes a difference in Adrian.

I fell in love with the enigmatic Adrian in Soul Deep (Dark Souls). He was sympathetic and honorable in that book. In Soul Thief we see that Adrian has always had a noble side to him. But we also see how he became who he is now, and why he works with Hybrids who need help. The reason is both beautiful and heartbreaking.

The plot of Soul Thief involves threats to Angie and intense action scenes. But essentially this is a story of two people who meet, fall in love, and change each other for the better in a race against destiny.

Now that I've read Soul Thief, I can't wait to read Soul Chase (Dark Souls)! I'm sure you'll feel the same way.

Soul Thief is billed as Dark Souls #0.5, a prequel. That's because it takes place in the late 1980's, whereas the rest of the books take place in the present day. However, if you're new to the series, I would start with Soul Bound: Dark Soul (Dark Souls). The complicated world of Dark Souls is fully explained in that book.
