Product Description

Limited four disc (three CDs + DVD) edition of their 2009 album includes two 84 page books with lyrics and exclusive album and studio session photography. two exclusive enamel badges, poster and five artcards sealed in a collectors envelope with certificate of authenticity. Disc One is the Sounds Of The Universe album. Disc Two contains studio tracks not available on the album plus remixes. Disc Three includes demos from different stages of the band's career. The DVD contains behind the scenes footage on the making of the album, the video clip for 'Wrong' and more. Eclectic and energized, the band's new release is their most dazzling and diverse album in decades. Recorded in Santa Barbara and New York, Depeche Mode returned to using a lot of vintage gear, from analogue synthesizers to drum machines, in order to conjure up the retro-futuristic arrangements featured on the album. Lyrically the release contains many of the group's enduring obsessions plus more overt black humor than any of their previous collections. The release marks a reunion between the band and producer Ben Hillier, who worked with the band on Playing The Angel. Features the single 'Wrong'. Mute.

Strange and weird at some point.. but interesting in many ways. The first full listening can put a big question mark in your face, but there is no doubt that the 2nd and 3rd will please you the way DM always did : New sounds and new ideas for an overall new music experience.

Right from the start, it's clear that the band have a brand new bunch of analog toys and that we'll have a good taste at them.

The DM fans will love it, because they know what DM is all about : Doing things the others never did. The overall music amateur might be a little lost in it, though.

4/5.

I'm telling anyone out there that is a fan of Depeche Mode, that this box set is a must have. I wish that artist and groups offered something like this on every music CD/ DVD. The DVD alone is amazing, footage of stuff you won't see on the reg. CD/ DVD.

The bonus tracks(5 songs that never made the reg. cd) are very nice, remixes are always cool to hear and a big bonus, but the demos are different and to a fan it's cool to hear anything in the studio before the finish track.

Finally there are 2 badges (nice..), poster, 5 art cards (it's believed there are 15 in total and are kind of collectibles), the certificate of authenticity, and of course the 2 hard back books(.. amazing).

Excellent Buy.

Sounds of the Universe will be best appreciated by hardcore DM fans. The box set is the way to go. The accompanying books, the cds and the DVD are ridiculously good quality and give you an incredible behind the scenes at the making of a record.

It definately changed the way I hear the record. I really respect the hard work that went into it!

And the music is amazing. Usually it takes 3-4 times to listen to a record to start to like it, but with SOTU, one time is enough. Solid.

The more I listen to this, the more I like it - the usual sign of a good album. Great sounds with a new feel from some past toys, similar to what Robin L'Ecuyer has said. The words are worth some attention as well.

The Wrong video is 'exciting', although perhaps a bit 'disturbing' to some. Along with the short film, it's worth a $1 or $2 for the deluxe version for DM fans. Have only listened to the extended mixes once.
