This score for the film Dawn of the Dragon Slayer appears to be the only work available on cd from this talented composer. And this is not the first score that this composer from Finland has created. I first noticed his work in the film SAUNA ( 2008)and was very pleased to find his epic score for this film on cd. Despite what viewers think of the film itself, I personally liked it very much taking into account its limited budget. But the score that has been composed here is quite possibly something that should have been written for a bigger and more popular production. That said, nothing can take away the huge sweeping and melodic tapestry that Pannu Aaltio has written here. If you enjoy the work of modern epic composers like Howard Shore and his work on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, then there is no reason you shouldn't get great pleasure for this nicely produced piece of work. Interestingly no live orchestra was used to achieve this recording with all music programming done by Aaltio, giving the whole recording a little Hans Zimmer / media ventures feel which should not discourage any potential purchaser.
