A departure for Carter Burwell, but excellent Nov. 3 2013
By Ultima Thule - Published on
Format: Audio CD
Certainly a departure for Carter Burwell, known for dark melodic orchestral film music like "Fargo" and "True Grit". This is dark, but more energetic and electronic than any of his work I've heard. All of which befits the film "The Fifth Estate", which follows Wikileaks from its beginnings in European hacker culture. The music has a nice range, from techno to strings and woodwinds. Some of my favorite pieces are more atmospheric than thematic, but there is plenty of both.

The pop pieces are excellent too. I especially like the Amon Tobin piece "Always" and Tame Impala's "Elephant".
