I bought one of these a while back because it seemed like just the thing for me. I am an avid backpacker and seasoned survivalist. I like gear that is light, compact and practical. I was reading reviews to see what others had experienced and, after seeing a particularly bad one, felt I had to respond. I have caught many fish with this little wonder! The tackle that came in the kit was good, but I did add my own, and there is plenty of space to do so in the little tackle box provided. You will find jigs, grubs, spinners and an assortment of hooks for all needs. Granted, the reel does hang now and then, but I just pull out some line and reel it back in. It rights itself within 3 attempts usually. This is a light rod, not one for real "whoppers" but I caught a decent 16in bass on it just the other day! That is about the largest I would recommend with this rig. Big, tough catfish would be better suited to a matching rod. I love that I can just sling the pack over my shoulder and take off. It weight practically nothing and does not get in the way when trekking. I do not have much experience with collapsing rods, but I would venture to guess that none of them are super strong. Could it be better? possibly. A smoother, more reliable reel would be nice. I also don't like how the pack closes with a fold over flap that usually ends up with the reel sticking out. Bottom line is that it gets the job done at an affordable price with some nice extras to boot. I would absolutely suggest this product.
