Product Description

From Amazon.com

Now that enough time has lapsed, we can all have a good laugh over South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone's amusing little April Fools prank, in which they kicked off the show's second season not with the conclusion to season one's cliffhanger that would reveal the identity of Cartman's father, but with an all-Terrance, all-Phillip, all-farting episode, "Not Without My Anus." The ensuing outcry illustrated just how seriously its devoted fans take South Park. There is little evidence of sophomore slump in this three-disc collection of 18 episodes that continue the coming-of-age trials of third graders Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny. There is considerable shock value just in the episode titles alone, among them "Cojoined Fetus Lady," "Merry Christmas, Charlie Manson," and the infamous "Cartman's Mom Is Still a Dirty Slut." But mostly, the episodes are just--in Cartman's words--hella funny. "Spookyfish" is a creepfest about a killer fish, possessed animals, and alien alter egos (in which the so-called Evil Cartman is much nicer than the real Cartman) presented in Spookyvision, with pictures of Barbra Streisand framing the screen. "Chef's Salty Chocolate Balls" is a hilarious send-up of the Sundance Film Festival and the indie film scene that marks the return of Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo, and ends with the burial of Robert Redford in excrement.

As always, hard-earned life lessons provide South Park with fertile territory for skewed and subversive social commentary. In "Chicken Lover," Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged is an argument against literacy. "Underwear Gnomes" makes a strong case for corporate takeover of local family business. It is difficult to respect Warner Bros.' "authoritah" with the scant DVD extras. There are no commentaries, but Parker and Stone are present to introduce most of the episodes, each of which they proclaim to be their favorite. But their incarnations as abusive retirement center entertainers and as the hosts of an all-bacon cooking show fall flat. Bring back Rootin'-Tootin' Trey Parker and Pistol-Slingin' Matt Stone from the Season One set! --Donald Liebenson

5.0 out of 5 stars The best adult cartoon out there!, Mar 10 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the best adult cartoon that has ever been invented. I remember when I was a child I had to sneak behind my father's back if I wanted to watch this show. This show pushes the envelope like no other show has ever done before. The best part is that southpark is still strong.

4.0 out of 5 stars much improved over Season 1, May 4 2011

as I mentioned in my season 1 review I just now got into South Park (2011) due to a huge sale on each season. So I get to experience fresh what so many did years ago when i originally had no interest in the series...

anyways onto season 2...

I feel as a whole, this season was relatively stronger than the first. While the first was more of Try and Matt trying to sort their characters out, this season only served to strengthen everything they had originally built upon. Although there were still a few dud episodes, at about the mid-point of the season the show really hits its stride with non-stop laughs.

An episode I'd recommend completely skipping over is the first one in the season which is a full episode featuring Terrance and Philip. I can stand those 2 in very small doses but as a full episode I couldn't tolerate them any more than the 8 minutes I did before skipping the rest of the episode. Skip this dud and start at the 2nd episode which continues the first seasons "cliffhanger" ending.

Also once again Trey and Matt decide to do those incredibly lame intro pieces to each episode. When are these guys going to realize that THEY ARE NOT FUNNY?! The characters they make are funny but outside their characters Trey and Matt are just excruciating to watch. I really hope this doesn't continue into the 3rd season as I'm tired of having to fast forward through them. Luckily starting on the 3rd disc these stupid intros disappear so lets hope its permanent.

the packaging is great as always and the discs are held firmly in place along with a handy episode guide printed on the package

an odd thing is that the video sometimes screws up and it seems as if certain episode have a higher contrast than others. They don't get bright enough that you'll have to adjust your TV's setting but they're still noticeable at times

once again the sound issues that plagued Season 1's release seem to return at times as well during the first disc. Certain scenes will give an echo as it sounds like they're filming in a bathroom or a cave...or something else...this is only on disc 1 though so its a minor problem

the bonus content is lacking (as usual). Some lame music videos and a brief documentary is all thats really contained in this set. Seeing how the later season appear to have nothing at all I guess these limited bonus features are a good thing...?

anyways I'm looking forward to the future seasons as the show seems to only be getting stronger.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but still a few duds, Dec 30 2008

Like Season 1, there are some really great episodes in here, and as usual a few duds. Halfway through the season the commentaries from Matt and Trey finish, which unlike some people I don't necessarily miss. Not as topical as some of the later series, but still an entertaining set of discs.
