The instructions were complete and clear, the parts were all there, and the finished product has now held up really well for a year now. Would recommend this item.

HASH(0xa7218dd4) out of 5 stars Okay Nightstand... Dec 29 2013

This is a nice looking nightstand but it's short and not as big as it seemed in the description and image. This would be great for a kid or teen's room or for a young adult's first nightstand. It would look better next to a twin bed vs. my queen bed. However, the reversible (like a refrigerator) door feature and adjustable shelves inside make up for the drawbacks in size. The cubbyhole slot is very nice as well. The top does not match the legs as it appears in the images but is still a nice dark grey color. It was very easy to put together. I would say it's over priced but not by a lot.

HASH(0xa7539768) out of 5 stars Great nightstand for my teenage son Dec 27 2010

My son was looking to update his bedroom look to a more adult masculine decor. He is very happy with this nightstand. You can mount the door to open either way. It is a bit taller than his old one, and he really likes the open upright space as well. This will carry him through until he moves into his own adult home!

I was actually looking for an end table for the living room with storage/magazine space when I came across this table, which is actually billed as a "nightstand." Easy to assemble, seems sturdy, and looks great with my other furniture. Happy customer here!

HASH(0xa6f14c18) out of 5 stars Very Practical Aug. 15 2013

Purchased from Amazon, shipped quickly, and arrived intact. Instructions are a little flaky, but there are just a few pieces with this particular unit that it's quite easy and intuitive to assemble. Had it together in 15 minutes. Nice looking and very functional. Great value for the price.

HASH(0xa6fedf84) out of 5 stars Easy to assemble, good build quality. Not as good quality control on the drilling. Nov. 28 2014

--Original Review--
Ordered two of these to update a bedroom; they arrived today and I embarked on assembly. Having put together several IKEA items in the past, this was both easier to assemble than IKEA night stands (and IKEA furniture in general) and the materials felt like higher quality (it has some weight to it).

You're going to need some screwdrivers and a hammer to get this together, but thankfully the only "dig the screwdriver into your hand" moment is screwing the three vertical boards into the bottom board, and even then it's not as rough as turning quick-fit dowels into IKEA furniture. I did find it weird hammering the hinges onto the door rather than screwing them in; that took some significant hammering (as in, "Am I going to break this?" hammering). I suggest hammering them in while the board is on a soft surface (like carpet) to give the board some soft but firm reinforcement while you hammer away.

Once you put the tabletop on the top and need to turn the nuts onto the dowels you'll quickly notice there isn't much space for a screwdriver in the magazine space. I cheated and used the included hex key to turn those.

And when you're done, if you didn't carefully read the parts list you're going to panic - there are some parts left over. The extra plastic caps and shelf supports make sense as these seem to fall of, especially when moving from one home to the next. The extra plastic dowels make zero sense to me.

One of them had a hole drilled in the wrong place for the door handle - the holes are too close together. In all the ready-to-assemble furniture I've ever bought or helped others put together this is the first I've ever run into this but I see from another review someone hit this same thing so I guess I'm not too surprised. I went to South Shore's website and ordered a replacement. No confirmation email so I'm left guessing if it really was successfully ordered as the site indicated.

I would have given this 4 stars, and I'll consider adding the one I deducted back depending on how speedy the replacement door gets here and if it's drilled properly.

Update 1 (11/29): Received a confirmation email this morning that the replacement part order is in. It showed up as a blank message with a PDF attachment - in that they explained the part will ship within 10 business days and they'll send tracking info (carrier is FedEx Home Delivery).
Update 2 (12/9): The replacement door arrived today, along with 4 plastic "adapters" that you put the hinge screws into so that you can hammer the hinges into the door. Glad they included these, I definitely needed them. Good to go, and I'll give it an extra star to 4 given they included the extra parts I'd need without me needing to ask.
