Aside from the dance-driven "Oops (Oh My)", Southern Hummingbird's sound is far less electronic than the usual Missy and Timbaland co-production. A good mix of party grooves and more intimate acoustic guitar work nicely balances Tweet's graceful vocals. Her style will inevitably draw comparisons to Minnie Riperton, though many would describe her as a female D'Angelo. Either way, fans of intelligent soul music will be glad Tweet stuck it out--Hummingbird is the work of an introspective and talented woman. --Rebecca Levine

Speechless!!!,

This review is from: Southern Hummingbird (Audio CD)
This album is more different than any album in the music business and better. She earns a Grammy for her singing. The sound of her voice makes it seems it she's just being herself and is not trying to be all perfect like Ashanti.

Very good debut,
This review is from: Southern Hummingbird (Audio CD)
When Tweet first came onto the scene, she was mercilessly compared to Ashanti. In fact, all the attention shoved on Ashanti hurt her in music sales. Although Ashanti may have the edge sales-wise, musically, she ain't got nothin' on Tweet. Tweet's voice is very soulful and different from most of the current crop of R&B divas. Although she is friends with Missy Elliott and Timbaland, she only works with them on a handful of songs. She was determined to use her own talents and not be a producer's puppet, and it paid off. Southern Hummingbird is full of terrific songs. Her voice works well in every song, and she has a lot of skill when it comes to songwriting. Her most popular song, "Oops (Oh My)" is one of the many standouts. Off the top of my head, the best ones are "My Place", "Smoking Cigarettes", "Always Will", "Motel", "Heaven", and "Drunk". What makes the album even better is a bonus track from Missy Elliott, and "Big Spender" is a good bonus for a terrific album.I recommend getting this CD. Hopefully, her next CD will get her the respect she deserves. She is a star in her own right and shouldn't have gotten all those comparisons to Ashanti. In the meantime, enjoy her terrific first album.

Music With Feeling!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Southern Hummingbird (Audio CD)
I found the album to be very experessive without the overdone feel of most music out there. Her singing is proof that one doesn't have to strain and hollar to be convincing.
