When I first heard that there was a new movie called Space Jam starring Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny, I was like, "Huh?" I wasn't really interested in seeing it (it turns out the movie IS pretty good), but I heard from my friends that the soundtrack is pretty decent. I listened to it, and they were right.
The soundtrack seems to be PG-rated (if THAT), and it's a good thing because the movie is like that too. But another thing is that it seems to be targeted toward the high school audience (I was 15 when this came out), so if you're over 18, don't expect to be bumping this in your car or anything. This isn't to say the soundtrack is bad. There are great songs like R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly", Monica's "For You I Will", and D'Angelo's "I Found My Smile Again". All-4-One also shows up to sing "I Turn To You", which most people probably didn't know was recorded before Christina Aguilera's 2000 #3 hit. I like Christina's rendition better, but this version is still good.
Since Space Jam is about basketball, it wouldn't be right not to have some energetic tracks on here. B-Real, Busta Rhymes, Coolio, LL Cool J and Method Man bring us The Monstars' Anthem (the Monstars were the opposing team in the movie), otherwise known as "Hit 'Em High". And the title track, performed by Quad City DJs, is decent, but all their songs sound the same to me.
The last song is the humorous "Buggin'" as performed by Bugs Bunny (and was written by Jay-Z, I must add). Bugs and the other characters are voiced by Billy West (best known as the voice of the Honey Nut Cheerios bee), but at the end of the song it sounds like he's getting lazy with the voice (of Bugs, anyway). And I'm not exactly sure why Robin S. (of "Show Me Love" fame) is on here, but her "Givin' U All That I've Got" sounds like her other songs too. But regardless, this soundtrack was a perfect match for the movie. I don't really listen to it that much now, but it's still great.

Years ago soundtracks used to be okay with few big name artists and never moved up the charts much. But boy has that changed, now every big movie trys to push a big soundtrack with star studded artists. Space Jam is no different with cuts by Monica, D'Angelo, and R. Kelly. But this soundtrack offers a wide range of R&B and Rap songs that satisfy a great number of people, myself included. This soundtrack was one of the best of 1996, but not of all time, but still a good collection of songs. The Standouts are D'Angelo's I Found My Smile Again, Monica's For You I Will, R Kelly's I Believe I Can Fly, and Seal's Fly Like An Eagle(although the original was 4 times better). The cd has been in my cd player for years and I still play it on a reguluar basis.
I'll admit a few tracks could be better but considering that it was a movie for the family, I found it to be worthwhile. It even has a track with Method man and Busta amongst others. THe track lyrically is not your typical rap song because after all kids were a big part of the audience. But it had a decent hook and I liked it. But still this is mainly an R&B album, and I recommend it to those who like R&B. Young or old you will probally like this cd, I do!

This is the best soundtrack I own(considering I only have 2,the other one is Titanic). It's for fans of pop/rock, r&b, and rap alike. About the highlights: 1. "Fly Like an Eagle"- Beautiful, inspirational, and uplifting. 4. "I Believe I can Fly"- Good for anyone going thru hard times. 3. "Space Jam"- It made me want to dance, which was unfortunate because I don't do that very well. 7. "For You I Will"- A melodic, but overplayed ballad. 8. "Upside Down"- A remake of the Diana Ross hit. Music to reminisce about your crushes to. 9. "Givin' U All That I've Got"- Slammin' beat, although I didn't always understand what Robin S. was singing. 10. "Basketball Jones"- Hilarious and written by none other than Cheech and Chong. 13. "That's the Way"- Another cover, this time of KC & the Sunshine Band. It's funky. The other songs were too hip-hop. Contrary to what another reviewer said, this CD had just the right amount of singing(he or she must be a rap fan). "I Turn to You" is alright(now,it's also a Christina Aguilera song). "Buggin'" was OK, but eventually it gets annoying. "Space Jam" has more good songs than most CD's. Buy it,everybody!

I RECIEVED IT AS A BIRTHDAY PRESENT AND FOUND IT TO BE EXELLENT! IT WAS REALLY GREAT!
THIS IS ONE OF THE FIRST AND ONLY AND FEW CDS OF MY COLLECTION WHERE THERE ARE NO TRACKS TO SKIP, WHERE EVERY TRACK IS GOOD, AND WHERE YOU CAN LISTEN TO IT THE WHOLE CD THROUGH. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE CDS AND I RECCOMMEND IT TO YOU IF YOU LIKE SOFT ROCK, RAP, AND/OR R&B. I DO, AND IF YOU DO TOO, I RECCOMMEND THIS ALBUM TO YOU. HOWEVER, THERE IS AN ADVISORY: YOU MIGHT WANT TO SKIP TRACK 5, "HIT'EM HIGH", BECAUSE THEY TALK ABOUT VIOLENCE ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE SONG. I DON'T MIND THAT IN THIS CASE BECAUSE THEY'RE JUST PRETENDING TO BE THE MONSTARS IN THIS SONG, AND THEY'RE JUST TALKING ABOUT WHAT THE MONSTARS DO, AND THE MONSTARS ARE ONLY CARTOON CHARACTERS, AND CARTOONS ARE ONLY FANTASY. BUT IF YOU DON'T LIKE THAT, EVEN IN THIS CASE, (and i know some people who do,) YOU MIGHT WANT TO SKIP THAT TRACK ON THIS CD.THANK YOU, MOM, FOR GIVING ME SUCH A CD THAT IS SO GOOD. THE ONLY THING THAT I WAS DISAPPOINTED ABOUT ON THIS CD IS THAT I WAS HOPING THAT MORE SONGS FROM SPACE JAM THE MOVIE THAT I LIKED VERY MUCH WERE ON THIS CD, AND THEY WEREN'T. I LOVE SPACE JAM THE MOVIE, ITS MY FAVORITE MOVIE, IN, FACT, AND I LOVE SPACE JAM THE SOUNDTRACK, ITS MY FAVORITE SOUNDTRACK, IN FACT.
THANK YOU FOR READING MY REVIEW. PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR SHOUTING. BYE!!
P.S. MY FAVORITE SONG IS NO.9, ROBIN S., "GIVIN' YOU ALL THAT I'VE GOT." MAN, THAT SONG ROCKS! (Well, actually no. it's actually a dance song, but you know what i mean.)
