"Your bible will be the Cadogan Guide to Spain."--Daily Telegraph

Book Description

There are many reasons why travelers from all over the world are drawn to this increasingly popular colorful and unpredictable country--the Moorish treasures of Andalucia; the eccentric architecture of Gaudi; the castles and monasteries of Castille; or simply the lazy attractions of golden Mediterranean beaches. This new edition explores the distinctive culture of each region and has full listings of the best places to eat, drink, and stay for every budget. With personal insights and style for which Cadogan is renowned, it includes the very hottest things to see and do, from touring the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao to finding Flamenco bars in Madrid that only the locals know about.

From the Back Cover

Cue the castanets and prepare for the unabashed stereotypes. Spain crackles with an exuberance that makes everything seem more alive; its dazzling light and atmosphere penetrate the blood quicker than a bottle of cava. In this new, up-to-date edition of their highly praised guide, Cadogan's Spain experts reveal its many facets, whether you seek Gaudi's genius in Barcelona, the fabled castles of Castile, Bilbao's glossy Guggenheim, the playgrounds of the Costas or the rain-polished granite of Celtic Galicia. This fully update 6th edition contains practical travel advice; over 1,200 hand-picked places to stay; over 1,100 restaurants, bars & cafes; 59 maps; color touring-map section; stunning color photography; the best of every region - festivals, wine, tapas, art and architecture. (5 1/2 X 8 1/2, 746 pages, maps, color photos)

Leon is a singularly happy city of clean boulevards shaded by horse-chestnut trees, one of the few places in Spain to achieve urbanization with grace and elegance. Part of the credit for this must go to its hyperactive Ayuntamiento (City Hall), which blankets the city with posters depicting itself as a friendly lion, advising the Leonese to ride the bus, recycle their glass, and not to curse in front of the children.
