I purchased this blu-ray without seeing any of this season on the television when it was aired. I already own Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena (which are both excellent) and I hoped this one would be similar to the other two. I won't mention anything about the story itself, as I don't want to spoil anything for those who have not yet seen it.
As Andy Whitfield had done such a great job on Blood and Sand, I was glad to see that Liam McIntyre also played the part really well, as did the fine cast.
This season took me longer to get into and was quite slow to begin with, but it soon changes pace and has you gripped. The picture and sound are excellent. If you love the nudity, sex, profanity and gore, with excellent acting and storyline Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena have to offer, you won't be disappointed with Spartacus Vengeance. However, some Andy Whitfield fans may have a hard time accepting Liam McIntyre.

If I had to express my opinion in one word about Spartacus, Vengeance...that would be exhilirating! From the first disk right up to end of the third, every episode kept me on the edge and wanting more. And MORE is what was delivered in this second season, more action, more intrigue and more twists and surprises laden around every clash of steel sword and brunt of shield.
As for the new Spartacus portrayed by Liam McIntyre, I think he has done a grand job so far in bringing former (and sorely missed) Andy Whitefield's development of the character to life. It took to the end of the first episode to become accustomed to the new actor, and from there on I felt as if Andy was there along with Liam as well.

The other actors, Lucy Lawless, Manu Bennett, Peter Mensah, Katrina Law to name a few, all were in top notch performance bringing their characters alive once again. My only complaint is that Navia,(a main character from previous episodes in which she in her role as lead slave and gladiator Crixus shared a slow and soon torrid sensuality together),did not show up until later on, around forth episode in, and the new actor portaying her did so as more passive and seemingly fraught, although later on, the old Navia was back in full force much to my pleasure. Whether this was the actors response to how her character was written, I'm not sure. All I know is that Navia, once intelligent and strong, did not disappoint later on when it came time for her vengeance to manifest in a blood chilling scene!

Liam McIntyre does an awesome job taking over the role of spartacus.
It continues that story flawlessly with the same feel to the series that last two did.

The fact that Andy Whitfield passed away due to cancer at age 39 and was replaced by Liam McIntyre I thought the series was finished. (Note: Please look for the documentary, "Be Here Now", which follows Andy's life as he fought the cancer.) Though Liam is not the same as Andy, once you accept Liam's portrayal of Spartacus, Vengeance is just as good as season one and the prequel. The story line is fantastic, the sets are incredible, and the action is spectacular. There is still a lot of blood, guts, and sex but unlike many films it adds so much to the story and is not just put in for gore and to show sex scenes. The other fact is the writing for this series is some of the best ever. Everyone talks in metaphors. One problem is that if you watch the first show you can't stop till you get to the last. It is very addictive. Compared to the garbage reality shows that litter the airwaves this series is proof that quality in story telling can still be done. The only sad part is knowing of the loss of Andy Whitfield. Everyone in the series portrays their characters in such an believable manner and Andy was the best.

Been a fan of this from its inception. Have always had a fascination with Roman history and with gladiators as well. Great follow-up series after the lead actor was diagnosed with cancer and later passed (I think he has passed away) due to the cancer he had. Very graphic and violent as such to be expected with gladiatorial combat, and a great deal of sexuality, nudity and sex within this series. Overall a great purchase on sale and a welcome addition to my collection.

Was unsure how things were gong to turn out when the lead in the original series dropped out due to his cancer diagnosis, as well as they were changing the course of the story and had to basically do a complete rewrite of the series itself. In the end it turned out really well and found it be a very enjoyable follow-up to season one, but a somewhat big departure from the story arc in season one.

I'm not gonna lie I didn't have high expectations for the continuation of Spartacus, but after I got used to Liam as the new Spartacus (which took 2-3 episodes) it was perfect! The acting was superb, the storyline was epic and it always left me waiting for more. I found the new Navier to be the only thing that slightly bothered me in the whole season.
I highly recommend this show to anyone who liked the first season, or shows like Rome and GoT.
