Great Buy,

This review is from: Spawn: Origins Book 1 (Hardcover)
This is a great collection. The book includes issues 1 - 12, not 1 - 8 and 11 - 14 as advertised. I only recently became interested in comics, specifically Spawn, and I found this to be a great place to start. In addition to the collected 12 issues, the book contains several penciled (apologies if I'm using the wrong term) of the original issues covers and a letter written to explain the behind the scenes issues that occurred regarding Spawn issue 10.

Can't find any fault with it,

This review is from: Spawn: Origins Book 1 (Hardcover)
I've always wanted to read Spawn, but never liked the whole comic scene and the difficulty of trying to acquire all the various issues. "Origins" are for anyone that shares those sentiments. It isn't the only collection, but one of the few that has the 2 issues that were removed from most, due to legal problems(the hard cover edition, TPB version is missing them). Its also a little better looking than the "Collection" collection, which is much larger, but missing the 2 aforementioned issues. That said, I find the best deal is to get "Origins" 1 HC edition(which is Issues 1-12), then get volume 2-6 of the "Collection" collections, as you just get MORE for less with those, and you don't miss out on anything that you might otherwise. The only flaw with that is they stopped making the "Collection" collections after volume 6 (which is issues 96-116) and no sexy hard cover versions, BUT! by comparison, "Origins" has 12 paper back volumes out and its only at issues #69-74, so it will be some time before they catch up, and the Hard Cover versions of "Origins" are coming out even slower, with only 3 out as of this review. What ever you may decide, fact remains that Origins Book 1 Hard Cover edition is a great place to start.

Perfect for Spawn Collectors,

This review is from: Spawn Origins Volume 2 HC (Hardcover)
I'll start off by saying that there is a slight error on Amazon's page. This book actually contains issues 13-25 and not 7,8,11-14 (this is what you would get if you bought the TPB of origins)Right off the back the you get the excellent art work by Greg Capullo on the warp around cover and this continues on throughout the book. As with Volume 1, volume 2 contains a gallery of inks and pencils of various covers and panels from the past issues and has a nice sampling of coloured images as well all be it less than in Volume 1. The story and narrative is top notch. I really enjoy how the narration can seamlessly move from one situation and set of characters to another as to really helps the reader to build the picture. Speaking of big pictures the overreaching story ark in Volume 2 continues Spawns struggle to protect the alleyways, Wanda and Terry and understand his powers and abilities. In relation to the later, we see receive a visit from Harry Houdini, but the majority of the plot focuses on Spawns confrontations with the Mob and Jason Wynn's forces. For those who are looking to collect Spawn from the beginning I can't recommend this book (and series) enough
