Public speaking is something that many people struggle with and yet these days not only do lots of people want to be able to speak better in front of an audience, often their careers depend on it. In Speak easy, Fortune magazine's ''Turnaround Champ'' Barry Gibbons, draws on his vast experience of speaking in public to help you make your dread of delivering speeches a thing of the past. Who knows, you might even start to enjoy it! Barry is the first one to admit that he's made a mistake or two along the way but these have helped him develop some brilliant ideas to avoid falling into the same trap twice.

Mention the words "public speaking" to any number of teenagers, and what you're likely to see is blind panic. When you become an adult, public speaking doesn't often get any easier. With SPEAK EASY at your side, though, the difficulty of speaking to a group of people can be lessened.

Although it's sometimes difficult to get over the fact that you'll have to stand up in front of a group of your peers and speak -- coherently, precisely, and as if you know what you're talking about, no less! -- there are tips and tricks that you can use to your advantage to make the event less terrifying. Barry Gibbons, the former chairman and CEO of Burger King, has had a lot of experience when it comes to public speaking, and he's put his knowledge into book form to use as a handy reference.

Filled with alternate ideas, exercises, and pointers to make public speaking less traumatic, this is a good guide for teens and adults who shudder at the very thought of becoming the object of attention during a speech. This is a book that is perfect for any speech class, drama or debate club, classroom library, or simply as a reference guide.

HASH(0xb58d8708) out of 5 stars Delightful! March 18 2015
By Meks Librarian - Published on Amazon.com

This was a truly delightful non-fiction read that I felt myself looking forward to when I knew I was going to have a chance to read a few chapters on my kindle during my trips to and from work.

The topic is public speaking, something many people find scary and avoid as much as possible. For others, it is part of their working life, or they simply enjoy speaking at occasions such as weddings and anniversaries. No matter whether the reader is an experienced speaker, has been given the task to give a full business report to Senior Management for the first time, or has been approached by a friend who wants someone to “just say a few words” at some social gathering or other, they will benefit from the 52 ideas presented in this book.
I found myself grinning more than once, and recognized similar experiences (not as a speaker, but as part of an audience) to the ones described.
Public speaking is not rocket science, but there are some dos and don’ts – and they are not always the same for every occasion, and certainly not for every audience in every country. Therefore, good advice by someone who knows what they’re doing (and has been doing it for a long time), advice that is presented soundly and with humour, can only be useful.

Although I do rarely speak in front of groups (and even rarer are those groups larger than 20), and usually only to introduce someone else, I know I am going to apply those bits that fit my situation.
If Barry Gibbons’ other books are as entertaining as this one, it will certainly be worth looking for them.

I did not particularly find this book interesting. The writing style is not friendly and it takes great effort to continue reading.
