Garbage has a knack for keeping their sound signature, but fresh, and with this, their third single from Version 2.0, they have upgraded alt-rock's molding industry. "Special" bites off Pretenders'"Talk Of The Town" with fierce energy and squiggly cyber-pop, making it a must listen. The acoustic version of "Medication" isnt the greatest thing youve heard, but its Shirley's own irresistable sorrow that makes one of Version 2.0's throwaways (theyre arent many)something of a memorable piece. Calderone's remix of "Push It" isnt revolutionary, but it does well with a song in no need of an alteration.

Garbage fans, "Special #2" cries out for your love! This CD single isn't as good as "Special #1", but it has its place. The B-side, "13 x Forever", has turned into one of my favorite Garbage songs - it's an infectious winner that should have been on the album. "Special" is still a great song, and one of VERSION 2.0's strongest tracks. The only weak spot here is the dull, unnecessary Brothers in Rhythm remix of "Special". Otherwise, "Special #2" is a worthy buy.

Medicated Sept. 2 2003

Not everyone can relate to the song "Medication", which in a way is not a bad thing, but it certainly keeps it from getting the credit it deserves. This acoustic version features re-recorded vocals, something Garbage has done on a few of it's B-Sides. This single is a must own for Garbage fans.

13 X Forever infectiously catchy! Aug. 3 1999

You've all heard "Special", so I won't talk about that. The second track on this disc, a b-side called "13 X Forever", is typical Garbage: driving beat, sexy vocals, and clever hooks. A sample of the lyrics: " Thirteen times you f***ed with my karma; Thirteen times I sucked on your dogma." Cool! The third track is an interesting remix of "Special". The chord progressions are changed quite a bit, but the melody still works because it was extremely flexible to start with.
Summing it all up, this one is worth having.

13 x Forever! Nov. 13 1999
By Michael S. Prosen - Published on Amazon.com

This was the first import that i have ever bought from Garbage, and i was so impressed that i have bought 9 more of them. The CD is excellent. Sure it only has 3 songs on it, but the song 13xForever makes up for it. This song is my favorite B-side. Shirley's vocals are just amazing, and the lyrics make the song phenominal. I would definately recomend this CD to anyone who is even an avid Garbage listener.
5 stars indeed.
A must-have for Garbage fanatics July 14 2003

"Special #1" suprised me for a number of reasons, primarily the fact that Victor Calderone's techno remix of "Push It" is actually decent - great, even. To me, a good remix should be able to stand on its own as a strong song, and this one does just that. I can easily imagine it being played at a club or rave, and it has a scratchy, raw feel that few techno remixes can claim. But what really sells this disc is the acoustic version of "Medication", a song that I continually skipped past on "Version 2.0" but which stands out beautifully here. Consisting of just Shirley Manson's thin but earnest voice, a guitar, and a piano, the song has a delightfully minimalist feel, and it gives the song a much more emotional feel than the original. And of course, "Special" is a great single no matter how it's mixed, and rounds out an overall great CD single. A must-have for fans.
