A disaster. Horrible Sound on a terribly expensive item, Dec 8 2011

Okay, I sprung for this, even thought it's crazy expensive for what you get. Putting the issue of cost aside, the real problem here is the sound. The CD sounds terrible. Elvis' voice is way back in the mix, and the whole thing is way too bass heavy. I wonder if they spent all their time mixing for 5.1 on the DVD, then just combined channels for the CD. Because the information is there -- it's just mixed terribly. I tried listening to the 2-channel stereo on the DVD, and it sounds like the same bad mix. Please bear in mind -- this isn't a complaint from a fussy audiophile -- I've played this on several different systems at different price points, and it just stinks. It's really too bad. The band sounds like they were in fine form, and the arrangements are good. In short, a disaster.

Package not "lavish", Dec 11 2011

I would not be disappointed with this item had it not been described as being much nicer than it really is. "Lavish box"? It's in a cheap paperstock box (which Amazon managed to crush by shipping mine in the same box with several hardcover books). The 40 page book has the sleeves for the CD, DVD, 10" record and poster bound in (along with the Spinning Songbook on the cover), making it difficult to read. This would have been OK to pay <$100.00 for, but at over $200.00, I feel taken advantage of.
The good news is that the CD and DVD are excellent. (I haven't listened to the 10" EP yet.) And the tour diary is an interesting read.

First One to Spin the Wheel in Reno!, Dec 9 2011

Very expensive. Yes. The packaging is great, but, I agree, the sound is a bit lacking...why just the Wiltern? Filming was done in Reno during the opening night of the tour - and some of the songs were much better at the Reno show (for instance: Slow Drag with Josephine, Jimmie Standing in the Rain, and Stella Hurt) - much better in Reno than on the DVD...along with a greater variety of audience participation and excitement. The overall buzz and thrill of having so many long time fans in attendance who flew in from all over the country to attend the Reno show was amazing! I was disappointed Reno was not featured (except for about 10 seconds in the bonus features/behind the scenes segment - and yep, there I am!) And the signature not being authentic?!...now that's just not right. However, the product IS a "collectors item" and I'm glad I bought it. For the long time Elvis fans, it really is a good thing to have! Enjoyed the "book" and Elvis' comments on the tour. I wish we could have seen a collage in the book of all the people from every city who spun the wheel... Kind of cool to get an album too. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.
