4.0 out of 5 stars Third "Spider" fun, but crowded Nov. 13 2007
Format:DVD
Anyone who has followed the SpiderMan movies probably knew that the third wouldn't be able to keep up the pace set by the first two. Spider Man 2 was even better in some ways than the first, and while it would nearly be impossible to top that in a second sequel, Spider Man 3 had to be done. All of that said, I was inclined to be forgiving in watching Spidy 3, which was a good thing.
Although it was fun and entertaining, the third Spider Man has gotten away from Spidy's dry humor and witty repartee, and has become just a good superhero/action movie. I like these, and you will too probably. It is certainly busy with plot, fight scenes, and bad guys: Gwen Stacey is introduced, becomes MJ's 'rival' of sorts for SpiderMan, who is already busy fighting Hobgoblin, Sandman, and Venom. It's nothing if not a vigourous workout for our hero! And well worth the purchase price (check the Amazon.com vs. .ca prices!).
Spiderman 3 also manages to convey some important, if simply spun, messages about forgiveness and letting go of the past--something that gets harder but more important to do as we age. And perhaps that's what the Spider Man movie franchise should consider, before it too becomes stuck in recycling past conflicts---please, Marvel, think of something else for Spidy 4 other than Spiderman vs. Rhino, Electro, or the Lizard...etc.!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spider-Man 3 Jan. 23 2012
By J. Vu
Format:DVD
I bought this DVD to complete my collection and because it was a great deal. Although the movie received the worst ratings out of the three some Sam Raimi, I enjoyed it. The characters are still great and the action is fantastic. I love this version of Peter Parker and this movie is great as part of the trilogy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never too crowded for a comic book fan Jan. 15 2008
By J. Tupone TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I've heard a lot of criticism about Spider-Man 3. Most of that criticism centres on there being "too much going on" or too many villains in the movie. I have to disagree, as a former comic book reader/small-time collector this movie brought back so many memories. It doesn't follow the comic book story very much, but it's not a comic book, it's a film. And if another medium can be used to tell a good story, then why not use it and change it if need be? I thought the complexity of having three villains throughout the movie really added something interesting to the story. The story was never dull, hard to keep track of at times, but never dull. I often found myself wondering what would happen next and trying to guess what the next plot twist would be. While some comic purists may find a couple of scenes absurd, I found those scenes add a lot of comic relief that might broaden the audience of the film a little. The story appeals to a mass audience, which is what big budget films are supposed to do and I think it's successful in that regard. It's also successful in making comic book characters seem "cool" or hip in the sense that Spider-Man isn't just for us comic book geeks or for the people who are old enough to actually remember some of the earlier television series, like the late 1960's version. If changing the stories a little and adding some Hollywood hype can keep Spider-Man in popular culture, then I'm all for it. This movie tells a good story, has effective comic book characters (heroes, villains, supporting characters) and has some comedy as well. It's a great film.

4.0 out of 5 stars well, there's good news.... (3.5/5) Aug. 27 2007
By falcon
Format:DVD
...and there's bad news.first, the good news.great villains in The
Sandman and Venom.Thomas Haden Church(from "Wings" fame)is well cast as
The Sandman. He makes a credible bad guy,and even brings some sympathy
and humanity to the character.Topher Grace is surprisingly good as
Venom.also,James Franco returns.the fight scenes are spectacular and
relentless, but there are not enough of them.the CGI is improved from
part 2.the scenes of Spiderman swinging on his web and jumping from one
building to another are almost seamless. The CGI Sandman is quite
good,as is Venom.now, the bad news.none of the villains are given
enough screen time, because the filmmakers tried to cram too much story
into the movie.the movie enters camp territory at times, which is(or at
least, should be)a no no for this franchise.also, the movie focuses too
much on the dramatic aspect, the love story, between Peter and
MJ.and, there is also a brief musical thrown in. and finally, there was
too much sentiment in this movie, compared to the previous
two.hopefully, the filmmakers will get back on track for the fourth
installment due in 2009.for a Spidey movie, this one is
disappointing, but still much better than many movies.for me,Spider-man
3,while not horrible,rates a 3.5/5,low by this franchises standards.

4.0 out of 5 stars Three Villains Is Too Much! Nov. 21 2007
By Tommy Sixx Morais TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
After two sucesfull and critically acclaimed movies,Spiderman returns to the big screen in 2007 in his third movie. While most fans knew it wouldn't turn out to be the best of the serie they still expected a good Spiderman movie. This third film in the franchise is certainly entertaining and visualy impressive and even funny at parts some could say.Yet critics said, and i have to agree with them that the decision to have three villains in the movie was probably thw worst thing to do.Those movie producers will say: "the more villains, the better",and Spiderman 3 proves that its not necessarily true. That confused a few, three bad guys in the same movie and battling Spiderman at the same time can indeed be comfusing but still the third film in the series remains a good superhero movie.

In my opinion there are way too many superhero movies nowadays as it seems that movie studios have learned how great profits comic superhero based movies could generate.X-Men,Fantastic Four make and countless others made their beggenings on the big screen recently while other older superheroes make a comeback such as Batman,Superman and others.Spiderman managed so far to deliver a great superhero experience troughout all the trilogy and to distinguish from others. The first two films have been great translations of the famous Marvel comic to the big screen, filled with drama, action and with romance as well.Comes this third filled with action and villains,it clearly ain't the best of the three as i expected but it was still a good experience at the theater for me.

I this third movie the storyline is kind of wicked because of the three villains but remains pretty solid overral.Peter still has feelings for Mary Jane and turns to another girl.

Yes, it's not as good as the first two movies, but it's not that far off. Some of the bits with "bad" Peter Parker are pretty goofy, but it's a totally decent film otherwise. Read more
