Spin the Weaver's Song Feb. 12 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This album has always been one of my favorites. Though the subject, weaving ( and all related to it, such as shearing ) sounds a little limited, the music is not! She has collected music from all over the world, very varied in style, and performed it all with near perfection. She does the songs from Eastern europe as well as those from English speaking countries, it's all absolutly beautiful. There are notes and references on each song, some extensive. Really good scholarship in addition to masterful performances. I wrote Ms. Sciaky to let her know one of my distant relatives, Edwin Markham, had translated one of the songs ( the Armenien song "The Spool"), and to find out a little more about it.She quickly sent a friendly, imformative letter back. Thanks to Ms. Sciaky's excellent recording, I was able to learn and perform "The Spool" for my grandmother's 100ith birthday party- she was a Markham and had known Edwin as a young woman. Se was very touched. What a wonderful gift this album allowed me to give!
This album is not just for those who weave or raise sheep, it should be part of the collection of anyone interested in cross cultural traditions, rituals around everyday practices, and beauty.

Pleasing, simple, and fun - folk at its best May 1 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
A delightful disc from Carla Sciaky, each song has something to do with weaving or weavers. With 30 songs on the album, most are rather short, but almost all are fun to listen to, and there are a few real gems among them. A few are in various languages besides English. Kids might also like this album, as most of the songs are upbeat and many are easy to sing along to. Not an album which will tax your neurons, but very fun and relaxing.

I have had this album as a tape for probably 20 years and loved it all that time. I am so glad to have it in a more permanent form. Wonderful folk songs related to spinning, weaving, and all things fiber.
