A Book Can Change Your Life,
By
This review is from: The Splendid Art of Decorating Eggs (Paperback)
I first came across this book when my Mom brought it home from the library many, many years ago and I was absolutely fascinated by the decorated egg designs. I didn't have access to the gold plated egg stands listed in the book but I did follow the directions and made a few simple eggs. Years later I remembered this book and took it out of the library again. This time I read it thoroughly and after finding supplies, started making decorated eggs. This book launched me into the whole hobby/business of "Egguery" when I was a teenager. I sold my eggs for many, many years. People always wanted to know how I learned this craft and I would say "from a book I got at the library". My eggs are in many countries around the world and I've been to some really neat places and met some really cool people, all because of this book. But the most important thing I learned from this whole experience was tenacity. I learned how not to give up when trying to do a really difficult thing. It's my opinion that this book can be life changing. I finally bought my own copy and I display it proudly on my bookshelf. The author clearly describes in great detail how to take an egg, empty it, dry it, and carve it. She often paints the outside of the egg or sometimes leaves the shell natural. She also puts various trims and decorations on the outside. Most of the eggs are cut with little hinged doors so they open and close. Most hold little scenes and others have velvet linings--jewellery boxes. There are many colour photos, drawings and even photos of Carl Faberge's eggs. Egg decorating has changed somewhat over the years, but the basics laid out in this book have not changed. Thank you Rosemary Disney for sharing your knowledge in how to create amazing decorated eggs.

Still unsurpassed!,
By Mark Twain "Gillian" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Splendid Art of Decorating Eggs (Paperback)
This was the first book I ever on this exquisite art, and I bought it waaaaaaaaay back when I was a teenager. I now own many books, magazines, and CDs about this art, belong to both the guild and the mailing list, etc. -- but this remains my personal favorite. The eggs shown are gorgeous and widely varied, and the directions are very clear. You can't go wrong with this book; although a fraction of the cost of most books on the subject, it remains without peer.

I found this book to be an excellent source of inspiration and instuction in the art of egg decoratiing. I am a rank beginner and I found this book to be extremely helpful. Ms. Disney explains in detail all phases of decorating. Whether you are interested in doing detailed carving, or simple embleshment you will find this book helpful and informative. I only wish there were more color photos.

Bought this book, arrived in perfect condition long before the estimated time. A splendid book for anyone who would like to try to do their own decorative eggs. Very helpfull for a total beginner who cannot get to Ëgg Decorating classes. Photos and expained drawings very easy to follow. Will definately recommend it. Although one can get a gadget to mark the half of the egg, the explanation to mark your cutting lines are very helpful en the drawings explains it step by step.Wilna Riekert South Africa |
