Seriously, this was surprisingly charming. With the series becoming so mean-spirited ever since season 5 started, this was kind of uplifting. Here, there's a reason for the characters to act like jerks, well, except for Patrick who's still kind of a jerk even without having eaten Plankton's fruitcake. The songs are quite good and actually add to the plot, unlike Atlantis Squarepantis where every single number except for maybe the first one was a complete waste of time and effort. The humor is actually good and while Squidward does get tormented at one point, at least it's the film's antagonist doing it and not one of the protagonists, who the episode would likely want us to believe is in the right. The only downside is that, honestly, I wish this had come out earlier. This special more-or-less pretends that every episode leading up to it never happened. It feels more like something you'd expect from season 2 as the jerkish behavior of the citizens is implied to be out-of-character for them despite a boatload of recent episodes proving otherwise. Also, the animations are really good, and even the Patchy segment wasn't anywhere near as painful to sit through as they usually are. All-in-all, for Spongebob fans, I think this is worth checking out. Seriously, if you haven't seen it, give it a go.

Although it was neat to see Bikini Bottom done in claymation. I'm not sure it was worth buying. My kids could have watched a regular episode of Spongebob and been just as happy.

WOW!! I was so impressed by the show and just how good the characters made the leap to real life. This was such a needed jolt to
the spongebob franchise. The characters are so charming to see in Claymation style.

Unlike Traditional SpongeBob Nov. 21 2012

Format: DVD
We have tons of Christmas DVDs but how could we possibly have ever celebrated Christmas without SpongeBob Squarepants?!

This new DVD featuring SpongeBob and friends is not your typical SpongeBob. While it says animated it is more like fuzzy claymation. Like the old Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer movie or Frosty the Snowman. It is one episode of SpongeBob that is all about Christmas. Plankton wants to of course steal the Krabby Patty formula and he does it by ruining Christmas for everyone. He puts jerktonium in fruit cakes and gets everyone in Bikini Bottom to eat them and everyone turns into a jerk. SpongeBob saves the day by having a big heart and caring.

Overall, I let my boys (4 and 5) watch this DVD. They laughed and the lesson they learned is to be nice to everyone and get in the holiday spirit. They thought the strange animation was fun too and it was a nice change of scenery. I will say the one weird thing of the DVD though was there was a preview for the new Katie Perry movie in the previews and it doesn't seem like it is the most appropriate for young SpongeBob fans. This is a short DVD too (just 22 minutes) so its quick to watch and then watch again.

A magical transformation of an old favorite! Dec 9 2012

The stop-motion animation breathes new life into this franchise. You'll be amazed at how well the animators were able to capture these beloved characters in this format. There's also a sense of wonderment as they keep doing the stop-motion animation with each new character/locale in Bikini Bottom. This one is highly recommended!

My boys looooooooove this movie!! They watch it almost every day during Christmas and still laugh every time. It's really funny and entertaining and I enjoy watching it myself. It's very well made and has a cute story line. It does say the word "jerk" ALOOOOOT so if you don't want your kids to hear/learn that work, you may not want to get it. Overall, it's a really great movie to add to your Christmas collection.

Cute story and like the stop-action animation Nov. 11 2012

Having downloaded the soundtrack album associated with this story, I was curious to fill in some gaps. Why is the fruitcake hot? We never got to eat it that way when I was growing up and it might actually be edible! Does Patrick succeed in trapping Santa? Two regular animation episodes are added to this DVD but they have nothing to do with the Christmas story so I knocked off a star. Otherwise, enjoyable antics from your favorite Bikini Bottom characters.
