I need a brave lad for my line of work...The Spook keeps the County safe from creatures of the dark; things that suck your blood and snatch your bones and squeeze the breath from your body. When young John Gregory stumbles into the trap set by a powerful witch, it seems he may possess some spook's skills of his own. But is he ready to face the dark or will his first fight be his last?Interception Point Otto and three fellow H.I.V.E students are on an urgent mission. A top secret therm optic suit captured by security services must be retrieved before the forces of 'good' analyze its technology. Only the suit is being transported to a secure facility on a high speed armored train with the latest automated defense systems. Otto and Wing devise a plan to retrieve it, but Laura and Shelby have a plan, too...The race is on to get to the suit first. But as the train speeds through the mountains of Europe, it becomes clear that this might just be one...elaborate...trap. Higher Institute of Villainous Education.

About the Author

Joseph Delaney is a retired English teacher living in Lancashire. He has three children and seven grandchildren and is a wonderful public speaker available for conference, library and bookshop events. His home is in the middle of Boggart territory and his village has a boggart called the Hall Knocker, which was laid to rest under the step of a house near the church. Mark Walden spent ten years producing video games for a living before finally deciding that perhaps it was time to do some 'real work'. His first book H.I.V.E was selected a winner in Richard and Judy 'Best Kid's Books Ever', Paramount optioned the film rights, and it has now been chosen as one of ten titles to feature in Booktrust's Booked Up scheme to give every secondary school child a free book. He has followed this success with two further titles in the extraordinarily brilliant H.I.V.E series. Mark lives in Hampshire with his family.

2.0 out of 5 stars Spook's Tale / Interception Point - Overview, Dec 22 2009

This small paper back contains a pair of short tales tied to larger novel series. The stories were specifically written for World Book Day 2009 celebrations. The Spooks Tale, by Delaney, is 63 pages. Interception Point, by Mark Walden, is 59 pages. This small paper back was originally exchanged free in exchange for a WBD Book Token (1 pound). - While interesting for the purpose, this book is being resold for over $28.00 new, which is at lease $20.00 over what it is worth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots Of Action for 59 Pages, Jan 2 2012

I read this book purely for the HIVE half. Originally I ordered it speedy delivery because someone had told me that it came before Escape Velocity, and I thought I had accidentally skipped a volume, but that is not the case. It immediately follows it. The story line is interesting, and Mr. Walden actually seemed to have put a lot of thought into what could happen in the length of an average fanfic. One of the things I liked about it was the perspective, which, like the two previous, was narrated by Otto, Laura, and Raven, without alternating in any particular order.

Many will tell you that it is not necessary to read this in order to understand the series. THEY ARE LYING. A concept introduced in this book is a HUGE part of the rest of the series, and one simply CANNOT finish the series with actual understanding without it. I give it five stars for humor, plot, characters, and two surprise elements in the ending.

This series is tied for my favorite with very few others, and I will always recommend it to any teen or teen-level reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interception Point is a captivating read!, Mar 12 2011

I bought it specifically for the H.I.V.E. half of the book. I have not read the other side of the book. I must say it was everything I thought it would be which is entertaining and short while being true to the H.I.V.E. series. This is a short story set between Escape Velocity and Dreadnought. All the main characters( Otto,Laura,Shelby,Wing,Nigel and Franz) are in Interception Point. Otto,Laura,Shelby and Wing are sent to retrieve a top-secret suit that has been stolen by H.O.P.E. The suit is being carried in a bullet-proof high-security train. The rules are set and the stakes are high, and there's some unknown threat to Otto on board the train. If you like the H.I.V.E. series, you will love this book.
