Product Description

Review

"This book is intended by the author to help the expert with accurate description, the breeder with the selection of a mare's mate, the veterinarian with easier diagnoses, and the judge to recognize the 'ideal.'"—Lone Star Horse Report

"There are innumerable books on horse conformation, but this one stands out because of author Christian Schacht's perspective. Schacht revies each part of the horse's body, detailing the biomechanics, ideal angles and training and management strategies to compensate for conformational deficiencies." —Practical Horseman

"My wait for this book was well worth it. ... [I]t is going to become a classic because of its clarity and its approach. ... What I learned has made my eye sharper; I observe myself quickly able to see the good, the bad, and the impossible." —Mary Daniels, Dressage Today

"Christian Schacht shares his knowledge in this incredibly detailed and educational manual of conformation. ... Whether you are breeding for the sport horse disciplines or trying to find a competitive prospect, this book is a valuable reference guide." —Equine Journal

About the Author

I could take or leave this book. I read it cover to cover, and was somewhat disappointed. I found the text leaves something to be desired in terms of clarity. The diagrams/photos were not much better with their often vague captions.

Terrific! Jan. 6 2013

I like that the author shows quantitative means of measuring the conformation of the horse compared to athletic abilities. This way the reader has a near exact means of discerning the potential of each horse critiqued.

Highly recommended for everyone who seeks to understand warmblood conformation. Written very simply with a nod to the nature of the horse as well. Clear illustrations presented very simply.

Well written with good photos and very intense explanations. Not for the faint of heart to read! Some of the author's points are arguable but pretty much an educational book.

This is the best book on sporthorse conformation, especially how it relates to functionality. Definitely worth a read and it should be a reference for any sporthorse breeder.

Excellent book Oct. 14 2013

This is an excellent book for anyone interested in learning the details of sport specific conformation.
Photos and descriptions are clear and easy to understand and will train your "eye" to recognize
the desired natural symmetry in horses, and their potential to be successful athletes. Read it before you buy your next horse !
I found it fascinating and I've had horses for over 40 years...it's now part of my collection of equine reference books. Dr Schacht is a respected and in-demand clinician and guest speaker in the USA, not to mention also the breeding director for the Oldenburg North America registry. He knows his stuff.
