I bought this book for my Canadian die-hard-hockey-fan husband. After he unwrapped the book on Christmas morning, I didn't hear a peep out of him for a solid 30 minutes. He was transfixed on the couch, reading all about his favorite hockey players.I'm not the world's biggest hockey fan, but I looked at the book. And it was great! It was fun to read; it's full of fun facts and trivia, and the pictures are fantastic. THE HOCKEY BOOK is very entertaining, and it highlights a lot of classic players, jerseys and teams. Would I recommend this book? Yes, I would. Would my husband recommend this book? Well, I'd ask him, but he's too busy reading. Chances are, though, that he'd give a resounding "Yes!"

I bought this book as a Christmas gift. When it arrived I had to take a look as I'm a hockey fan too. This book is gorgeous. The photos are amazing and cover hockey from the early days to now. There are lots of articles on lots of topics, though I didn't get a chance to read any of them, but even as a picture book, this is a great resource. I'm planning on borrowing it from its owner one day to give it a read.

I enjoyed this book. It has great pictures (my favourite being a picture of Derek Sanderson in the awesome WHA Philadelphia Blazers yellow/red/orange uniforms!). The prose includes a fantastic article on the US hockey teams 1980 Olympic gold (although I think this was edited from the original versions that was in the magazine). All the articles are from the magazine so don't look for new original writing or updates from how it appeared in print. They picked some great features though (Bobby Orr, Bobby Hull, Wayne Gretzky) and some I could have lived without (The Art of the Faceoff, 11 Seconds - about the tragedy of a college student being paralyzed, and an article by George Plimpton on his experience with the Boston Bruins). There are also features one what went on in each era of the NHL. A great book for hockey fans of all ages.
