Product Description

From School Library Journal

Grade 6-9 Haddock tells Iacocca's story from his early years through his career at Ford, which ended abruptly when he was fired by Henry Ford. He then reversed the fortunes of Chrysler and became a national hero. Although some of his faults are mentioned, Iacocca is portrayed in a positive way, especially in the descriptions of his closeness to his family. Haddock details how Iacocca refused to take defeat and how hard he worked for his success, making this a story with a moral. Explanations of how large corporations operate are included, a real strength of the book since many young readers have little knowledge of big business. New phrases and terms are defined within the text. The book is current, and it should hold readers' interest. A few black-and-white photographs are included, but they don't add much to the book. Most of the titles listed in the bibliography are for adults. This biography does fill a need, and it is a good choice for collections needing material on current national figures.
