Not bad at all Jan. 5 2011
By Babytoxie - Published on
Format: Paperback
STAR TREK: BURDEN OF KNOWLEDGE collects the four-issue miniseries written by Scott and David Tipton, featuring adventures set later in the five-year mission of the USS Enterprise. While these stories at first appear to be separate, the fourth story ties back into the first, making it a fairly contained narrative. As usual, the Tiptons come up with some interesting plots, this time involving first contact, sabotage, and even medical ethics. Also, they perfectly capture the rhythms and style of the various crewmembers' speech, as well as their mannerisms, making me feel as if I'm watching unproduced TV episodes. It was not difficult at all to imagine the actors speaking these lines.

Handling art chores is Federica Manfredi, who previously provided art assists on other IDW Trek books. Her work looks solid, with better-than-average representations of the crew. At times, she misses it, but I can see the improvement in her style over just these four issues, so her work should become exceptional as she gains experience with further projects.

Considering this is only four issues, the retail price is a bit steep (okay, we get some sketch pages - big deal), but the quality of the stories and art made it worthwhile. I'm looking forward to more.
