Product Description

IN A SINGLE MOMENT

. . . the lives of three men will be forever changed. In that split second, defined paradoxically by both salvation and loss, they will destroy the world and then restore it. Much had come before, and much would come after, but nothing would color their lives more than that one, isolated instant on the edge of forever.

IN A SINGLE MOMENT

. . . James T. Kirk, displaced in time, allows the love of his life to die in a traffic accident, thereby preserving Earth's history. Returning to the present, he continues a storied career as a starship captain, opening up the galaxy. But as he wanders among the stars, the incandescence that once filled his heart remains elusive.

IN A SINGLE MOMENT

. . . that haunts James T. Kirk throughout his life, he preserved the timeline at the cost of his happiness. Now, facing his own death, the very fabric of existence collapses across years and light-years, forcing him to race against -- and through -- time itself, until he comes full circle to that one bright star by which his life has always steered.

About the Author

DAVID R. GEORGE III wrote the Crucible trilogy for Star Trek's 40th anniversary as well as Olympus Descending for Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Volume Three. He previously visited DS9 in the novels The 34th Rule, set during the timeframe of the series, and in Twilight, set after the finale. His other Star Trek contributions include a first season Voyager episode, "Prime Factors," and one of the Lost Era books, Serpents Among the Ruins, which hit the New York Times bestseller list in Fall, 2003. Currently he is writing a novella for Star Trek: Myriad Universes: Shattered Light, coming in December, 2010, from Gallery Books.

In his almost nonexistent spare time, David enjoys trying his hand at new experiences, from skydiving to auditioning--with his lovely wife, Karen--for "The New Newlywed Game", from hiking a glacier in Alaska to belly dancing in Tunisia, from ocean kayaking in Mexico to having dinner at an actual captain's table somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Recently, he performed his first wedding ceremony--which he and Karen also wrote--marrying their friends Jen and Ryan Van Riper. David believes that the world is a wide, wondrous place, with exciting adventures waiting around just about every corner.

He remains free on his own recognizance.

This review is from: Star Trek: The Original Series: Crucible: Kirk: The Star to Every Wandering (Mass Market Paperback)
crucible kirk is the last part of the trilogy of the big three. this lets us understand kirk from a different point of view. we relife when he killed gary mitchell, lost edith keller, met his wife anoria from generations. also when he helped picard in the nexus. you find that he never got over losing edith keeler and the effect it had on him so many years later. good book. i perfered spock, but if you like kirk you,ll like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful conclusion to a terrific homage, Mar 5 2007

This review is from: Star Trek: The Original Series: Crucible: Kirk: The Star to Every Wandering (Mass Market Paperback)
The entire Crucible trilogy is an ambitious undertaking that succeeds very strongly in paying homage to the 40 year phenomenon of Star Trek.

No piece of fiction has managed to capture the entirety of the essence of the big three (Kirk, Spock and Bones) as David R. George III has managed to do.

This third and final installment is a departure in approach from the first two volumes and it's better for it. If you enjoy deep introspective character pieces with some familiar Star Trek type action then you're in for a very special treat.

Of the hundreds of Star Trek novels that have been written since the late 60's, A Star To Every Wandering is my second favourite, (right behind Crucible: McCoy: Provenance of Shadows)

The series, and indeed this book, manages to encompass the forty years of the original series with a sense of finality and closure. It's a most deserving and satisfying culmination.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the Spock and McCoy "Crucible" novels, Nov 17 2008
By Roger J. Buffington - Published on Amazon.com
I like this author, and I really enjoyed the McCoy and the Spock "Crucible" novels. I did not particularly like this novel. A good part of my dislike is based upon its emphasis on events that took place in the "Star Trek Generations" film. I always thought that the whole premise of "Generations" was silly and improbable, and perhaps for this reason I had trouble investing much interest in this story.

Some hard core Star Trek fans will no doubt enjoy this piece, but I found it to be distinctly weaker than the other two Crucible novels, and I had difficulty finishing it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Crucible: Kirk, April 5 2007
By Mark F. Henderson - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Star Trek: The Original Series: Crucible: Kirk: The Star to Every Wandering (Mass Market Paperback)
Out of the three books regarding McCoy, Spock & Kirk, I found the one about Kik the least enjoyable. I was surprised since the other two were outstanding reads. It was still OK and worth the time to read. It's just that the other two were that much better. Still, I'm glad to have in my ST Universe collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Star Trek TOS: Crucible Trilogy - Kirk, July 27 2008
By P. McCoy "Friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Star Trek: The Original Series: Crucible: Kirk: The Star to Every Wandering (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read all three books in the Crucible Trilogy in the order that they were written, beginning with McCoy, then Spock, and finally ending with Kirk. The book on Captain Kirk: The Star to Every Wandering was a bittersweet tale of love lost and the hope of finding that lost love again. This book was written to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Star Trek the Original Series and has references to various television episodes as well as the Trek films in which Captain Kirk appeared. The common thread that all three books in the Crucible Trilogy has is the TV epsiode: "The City on the Edge of Forever". If you enjoyed that episode, I feel confident that you will enoy reading each one of the Crucible Trilogy books.
