Great set, but incomplete...,

This review is from: Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection [Blu-ray] [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I'm not about to review the movies because you all know them. When I upgraded to Blu-Ray I gave away my collector's editions DVDs and - as another reviewer mentioned - these Blu-Ray versions are the theatrical release versions, not the remastered or extended ones. Pity because ST-TMP was really improved in the reworked version. I'm writing this only to inform you that most of the featurettes that appeared on disc 2 of all the collector's edition DVDs are simply nowhere to be found in this new boxset. If you're looking for the movies, then this will suit you just fine. However, if you're expecting more extras and interviews, you'll have to buy the separate Blu-Ray disc of the individual movies, which, it seems, have more to offer... But will cost you twice as much...

A very nice edition of the Star Trek legacy,

There has been a lot of discussion out there as to poor video transfer quality and excessive dirt not yet fully cleaned up in these blu-rays. I did notice on one occasion some dirt left on the picture in one sequence of Star Trek 1 from the conversion process, however, they are minimal. They are still very clean, brightly coloured, and comprising a wonderful, full sound. I believe some of the comments are unfairly critical, but that is all up to individual choice.I really like the quality of the set itself. All blu-rays are self-contained in their own slim case with a very cool hologram-like picture of one of the main characters on each. These all go into a nice sturdy cardboard slipcase with a further plastic slip case around that. It is a very nice collectors set. I never had the DVD set of these movies, so I really cannot compare the quality over and against them, however it should be noted that "Star Trek: A Motion Picture" is the original theatrical release and not the Director's Cut. I like the original, so it wasn't a bother for me at all.

Unimpressed,

Unfortunately I purchased this and when I got it home I was very unimpressed. The video quality of this Blu-Ray product is terrible. The transfer quality is poor and the originals look better on my regular DVD. I will say though, the audio is great. Unfortunately I am a visual person, not an audio person. I would NOT recommend Star Trek The Original Movies in Blu-Ray. They could have done a much better job. I think it's a marketing thing just to get the quality out there because the retailers know they will not accept returns.
