A Guided Tour Though the Star Trek Universe!,
By Michael OConnor "Wordsmith" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Star Trek Vault: 40 Years from the Archives (Hardcover)
Here's a no-brainer prediction: Trekkies are gonna love this book! Scott Tipton, who has penned various graphic novels including several Star Trek-themed titles, and the prestigious Abrams publishing firm have joined forces to present this words-and-pix valentine to Gene Roddenberry's endearing Star Trek universe. As Mr. Spock would say: Fascinating!A coffee-table-sized treat, STAR TREK VAULT, 40 YEARS FROM THE ARCHIVES tops out at 128 pages. Tipton examines each ST permutation - the original series, the animated series, the original series films, STNG, the STNG films, DS9, VOYAGER and ENTERPRISE - in chronological order. Even hardcore fans will find something of interest as Tipton offers up not only a critical yet affectionate summary of the various shows/movies but also of the ST phenomenon. He delves into the impact ST has had on American society, merchandising, Star Trek conventions and so on. You may not agree with all his statements/judgements but, overall, I think Tipton's book is a fairminded examination of all things Star Trek. Visually, STAR TREK VAULT is a delight: over 350 mostly-color, well-reproduced photographs and illustrations of actors, spaceships, equipment, on-set scenes, movie posters, ST comics, toys, fan costumes, etc. not to mention a dozen "interactive, removable memorabilia." I have mixed feelings about those items - pull-out diagrams, cards, mini-movie posters, etc. - but that's just me. STAR TREK VAULT sells for $40.00. Given the wealth of illustrations found in Tipton's book, I don't feel that's exorbitant. I suspect STAR TREK VAULT will be welcomed - and enjoyed - by Star Trek fans young and old. It's a fun, informative and appealing guided tour to one of the most successful franchises in history. Recommended. ***** Review #1,400! 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful

Good, but could have covered more history,

I realize that one book couldn't possibly cover all 45 years of Star Trek; this one made a valiant effort. So many facts and bits of memorabilia could have been included, but weren't (how about the efforts of the make up artists to make aliens that appeared real--or nearly so). Overall, a good read.

I would highly recommend this product to any true Trekkie. It is a wonderful and unique insight into the first fourty years of Star Trek history! Both of the shows themselves and the products produced from each series. There are even replicas of certain items!
