5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book May 6 2010
By George Bartan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have read this book before getting it for my 10 year old boy and I could not wait to read the sequel,Journey Across Planet X (Star Wars: Science Adventures, Book 2).This is an excellent example of multidisciplinary education and it can motivate young students to learn science. There is a lot of dialogue that will captivate the young reader by making the action almost visual. This is NOT a text book and it should be used to intrigue the kids and to make them interested in learning more about the scientific facts ingeniously inserted everywhere.

I highly recommend this book and its sequel to all kids, parents and teachers. For the price of a burger you will get a captivating book that can change the destiny of some kids.
2.0 out of 5 stars An excellent idea poorly executed Aug 21 2008
By Charles Ashbacher - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is a good idea poorly executed. The plan was to use the scenario of the characters of the Star Wars movies to teach young people science. Familiar droids Artoo-Detoo and See-Threepio are in a ship with scientific droid Forbee-X, Governor Zissu and his rebellious son Stuart. When an Imperial ship captures their ship, the Governor stays behind to hold of the storm troopers while the three droids and Stuart leave in an escape pod.
Through poor piloting, the pod flies an erratic course and is set into a wildly tumbling motion. These errors are used to teach the physics of motion, inertia and angular momentum. However, the dialogue is so whiny and undirected that the physics lessons are overwhelmed. It is unfortunate, because the concept is one that could be a powerful educational tool.
