Remember KOTOR and KOTOR2? Remember how KOTOR was this fantastic cutting edge game that had a storyline to rival the movies? Remember how everyone waited in line to get KOTOR2 only to be disappointed by a half-finished storyline with unresolved cliffhangers and hidden content that proved the game was rushed out to make a quick buck instead of respecting the franchise and the gamers who bought it?
Apparently it wasn't a one-time error, but the modus operandi of Lucas Games.
I loved TFU when it came out, and I have played it through about a dozen times. IMHO it is one of the best games for this generation of consoles. And like so many others I waited for the sequel and bought it as soon as I could.
What a disappointment!
The gameplay is still excellent, and the cinematics are amazing. But the storyline builds up only to arrive at a Vader Ex Machina ending and a ridiculous cliffhanger.
*SPOILER ALERT*
The storyline builds with uncertainty over whether you are playing the original Starkiller or a clone. You are hunting for the truth of your origin, as well as searching for your lost love, Juno. You get to see Boba Fett run past, but no combat or serious involvement. Yoda sort of waves as you walk past on Dagobah, but again no real part of the game. Meanwhile the rebel alliance needs your help to fight the empire, but you don't commit either way. Suddenly Vader appears, kills Juno, gets captured by the rebels and the credits roll.
*END OF SPOILERS*
It is pretty clear that the publishers ran out of time and wanted to cash in on the Christmas market, so they released a glorified demo as the final game. Now they will blame low ratings for not producing TFU3 and leaving the story unfinished. And for the record, the scenes - or even the worlds -that appear in the commercials for this game do not appear in the game itself! That is the most deceptive game advertising I have ever seen.
Its KOTOR2 all over again :(
