My Two Cents...,
By
This review is from: Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan (Hardcover)
A well written story any Star Wars fan can enjoy!Revan was thoroughly enjoyable. The first part of the book is like a tennis match between two story lines: that of Revan and of Scourge. You follow Revan as he tries to unlock mysteries from his past which were erased from his memory, but are unlocked as he discovers something of his past. You also follow a Sith Lord named Scourge who is assigned to discover the culprit(s) behind an assasination plot of a Dark Council member. Revan and Scourge inevitably encounter one another, but not as you would expect, and the second half of the book now follows Meetra who is connected to Revan and now seeks to save him from the clutches of the Sith. It really was a great story line, but I have to say that I am disappointed in the ending. It didn't really offer the kind of closure I was hoping for... in fact it pretty much needs a sequel. Revan is based on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (I and II). There are a lot of subtle story line details that flew over my head as I have never played the games. I don't know how much back story is covered in the games, nor do I know how much is dealt with in the new Star Wars: The Old Republic game. However, you really don't need to know what happens with these games to really enjoy this book. If you really want to dig into the back story, just do an internet search to fill you in on what is going on. Overall, I would say this is a great addition to the Star Wars Universe! Keep up the good work Karpyshyn!

Amazing book for KOTOR fans,

This review is from: Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan (Hardcover)
I was actually really surprised when I saw that this book had been released. Thinking to myself...The Old Republic: Revan?? Sounds really familiar.Anyways, I really enjoyed this book. I love how it not only extended the story from KOTOR 1, but the second game as well. Hated the ending though...but I won't ruin it for you. However, it did hint at a second book. Or possibly they just wanted to justify the ending, but I'm really hoping that isn't the case. If you enjoyed either of the games, then you'll most definitely enjoy this book as well. It is well worth the money.

Great story, not what KOTOR fans want however...,

This review is from: Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan (Hardcover)
If you owned a xbox and were a true blue star wars fan you most likely played the critically acclaimed, game of the year that went on to achieve the title of 'platinum hit' - Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic. One of the greatest RPG's arguably ever to be graced with the franchise name. From the storyline to the worlds and creatures you encounter, the game Bioware created was amazing. However, if you are like myself the real aspect of this title that captured you a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, was the characters. Bastila, Carth, Jolee, Juhani, Canderous, Mission, Zaalbar, T3-M4 and everyones favourite homicidal droid, HK-47. These characters are most likely what lead you to consider buying this book. I hate to be the bearer of bad news... Only three of the nine are actually invloved in this work of literature. And if you were hoping to find out what happened after the great adventure you and the Ebon hawks crew edured, you will be disappointed. Drew Karpyshyn is responsible for writing KOTOR. He also wrote this novel, which had me excited! Yet as entertaining as this story was, it lacked what I truly wanted. And after reading previous reviews, it seems to be the consensus. I gave this title three stars because strictly from an entertainment stand point, it delivers. HOWEVER, something feels amiss while reading it. You don't feel satisfied considering all the things that you truly wanted cleared up. As I already stated this is actually a very good book. The connection between the first and second games though seems... Sloppy. Somewhat forced and diluted. While reading this work I couldn't help but hope that the other characters would appear to help their friend in his time of need and grant me another wonderful adventure with a happy ending. Alas no.. I leave this review as what I see to be a fair judgement of the novel and a warning to Die Hard fans.Disappointment is a good bet.
