5.0 out of 5 stars super urban romantic fantasy, April 9 2011
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Starfire The Demonslayers (Mass Market Paperback)
On Lemuria, the son of the Councilor, Alton, his beloved human woman Ginny, Eddy the human woman and her beloved Dax the demon have learned that the demons control Lemuria as the Council of Nine ignored warnings. As they realize an inconvenient truth, heroic warrior women remain chained since they fought in the last demon War.

Selyn a Forgotten One daughter of a chained warrior woman was enslaved a thousand years ago by the Council of Nine at the end of that war. She and her sisters in arms prepare the rebellion against the Council of Nine. However, a guard viscously beats her to near death. Human veterinarian Dawson Buck saves her life. He heals her mind, soul and heart while she gives him a personal reason to live and fight on the Lemuria side of the portal.

Although the Demon King was defeated and exiled to the Abyss, the war continues to heat up with much of the action focused in Lemuria rather than on earth where the first two urban romantic fantasy Demonslayer thrillers (see Demonfire and Hellfire) occurred. Loaded with deadly action and sexual action, fans will appreciate this strong saga, but newcomers would be better off reading the first two entries to grasp the intricacies and nuances of the series as worlds of Kate Douglas are incredibly complex.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review posted at Everybody Needs a Little Romance, May 4 2011

Starfire - Kate Douglas
* I received this ARC/book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Starfire is the third full length novel in the Demonslayer series and it picks up where Crystal Dreams left off. Selyn is found near death in the caverns after she is brutally beaten by one of the guards. Roland, carrier of crystal gets her help in the form of a local vet in the Earth Dimension, Dawson Buck.

Dawson has been helping Alton, Ginny, Dax & Eddy in their fight against demons. He works tirelessly all night trying to save Selyn and with the help of Willow's healing magic, Selyn makes it through the night. Dawson is stunned at the intense feelings he has for Selyn, even though he just met her.

Selyn is a brave warrior but she is wary of men because they have never treated her kindly. She wants to trust Dawson but just doesn't know if she can. She has vowed revenge for all of the "forgotten" ones but revenge quickly turns into something else.

Together this small band will take on the entire Lemurian council and a world filled with demons. Will they be able to save both Lemuria and Earth from the demons? With the help of the "forgotten" ones and a leader that everyone thought was dead, they are going to try.

I loved everything about this book. The story flowed effortless and kept me entertained the whole time. The characters were interesting and complex that dealt with real life issues, along with a bunch of demons. I loved that the story of Dawson and Selyn was not overshadowed by the previous characters but enhanced by them. The reasoning behind the actions of Alton's father finally made sense after I read this book.

There was so much going on that it's hard to pick any single scene that was my favorite. The scene with Artigos the Just and the Forgotten was moving, the scene with Dawson and Selyn fighting about broke my heart.

I can't wait to read the final book in this series to see how it all ends. I want the Demon King dead but I have a feeling he is going to wreak lots of havoc in the next book too.

Overall I really enjoyed Starfire and give it 4 Flaming Hearts.

I have read all of Kate Douglas' Demonfire books. This one I found particularly interesting. Selwyn had never been out of the tunnels but still had the spirit to fight. When the Earth man she has fallen in love with is hurt and dying in battle, she gave what she never knew she had...love for someone other than the people she fought for.
