5.0 out of 5 stars Disk 5 issue is resolved Dec 12 2005
By A Customer
Regarding the Stargate-Atlantis Season 1 box set DVD where disk 5 contained same contents as disk 1: Amazon was very helpful and very prompt with helping me out with this problem. All I did was send an email regarding the problem to customer service the day I discovered the defect. The very next day, a new set was shipped to me at no cost to me. Within 48 hrs, I had my new set and disk 5 in the new set was okay. I shipped back the original set at no charge to me since Amazon's own shipping label is printable online. Thank you Amazon for handling this issue so well! I am very pleased! Nobody should hesitate to buy this product now because the issue has been resolved. I think in my first review, I blamed MGM for the error. Sorry about that! MGM products are generally 1'st rate. When I read that it was Sony that goofed, well, I wasn't surprised. But, all's well the ends well. The Atlantis series is a must have and the box set is very nicely done. I only have one wish with regards to box-sets and that is to have all multi-episode stories presented as one long movie without credits and theme music repeated at each end of each segment. I know, they are presented as they were aired, but frankly I find it very interruptive to have to scan through menus and credits and "previously on Atlantis" scenes in the middle of a great story. Maybe there could be a "play all" option in the menu that that applies to multi-episode stories that would automatically and seemlessly jump from the end of one episode to the real beginning of the next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing -As Good As The Early Years Of Stargate Jan. 12 2006
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Stargate Atlantis is a wonderful television show. The characters are quirky, smart, and very likeable. Joe Flanigan as Major Sheppard and Tori Higginson as Dr. Weir balance each other perfectly as representatives of the military and science in this series. Rachel Luttrell as Teyla is a strong, smart female character who adds sensitivity and humour to the group. Rainbow Sun Francis as Ford is great as the "juinor" member of the group - everyone picks on him but it's always good-natured. David Hewlett as Dr. McKay undergoes some of the most significant growth as a character in the series and it's nice to see a Canadian finally made the team. (I always wondered why on Stargate there were Russians but no Canadians on the teams.) Anyway - Buy this series - trust me you will not regret it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gating out to Pegasus Dec 29 2007
One of the big arcs of the "Stargate SG-1" series was finding the Lost City of the Ancients, also known as Atlantis.

It also turned into fertile fodder for a spinoff series (come on, you KNEW they had to make one eventually), known as "Stargate: Atlantis." The first season has its duds and awkward moments -- much like its parent series -- but it proves to be a solid introduction to likable new heroes, a legendary city, and a new race of alien parasites.

At the Antarctic base, Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) has finally figured out the location of Atlantis -- in the Pegasus galaxy. General Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) gives the go-ahead for an exploratory unit to go to Atlantis -- even though they don't have the power to return back to the Milky Way, and will be stranded there.

So Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) leads an international group of scientists and military to another galaxy, and arrive in the sunken Ancient city of Atlantis. Unfortunately, after ten millennia Atlantis is running out of power, and soon the whole place will flood. The military unit, including Major John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), goes scouting for a planet to evacuate to, and encounter the friendly natives.

Meanwhile, the irritable scientist Rodney McKay (David Hewlett) tries to somehow salvage the city -- only to have it rise from the ocean floor. But then the SG teams accidentally wake an ancient enemy -- the parasitic, vampiric Wraith, who destroyed the Ancients long ago. Cut off from Earth, the expedition settles into the Ancient city and tries to make the best of their situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very best Sci-Fi show available on DVD! May 1 2007
Being a huge fan of Stargate SG-1, it wasn't hard to convince me in purchasing the first season of Stargate Atlantis.

The unusual storyline and cast is excellent! Whether you like sci-fi or not, this is fun to watch since it touches a lot of issues such as dealing with different kinds of people and their beliefs, friendships, enemies, adventures and even comedy. This show is awsome on many different levels. Plus they always keep the price very affordable. Money well spent.

3.0 out of 5 stars right disc, wrong episodes Dec 4 2005
By A Customer
I would've rated this box-set a 5 except...
I bought the season 1 box set of SG-A because I like the show so much. I also bought the SG-1 S8 set. I've been sitting down and watching all the SG-1 and SG-A shows in order since I received them. All went well until I got to disk 5 of 5 on the SG-A set. Although labeled correctly as disk 5, volume 3, the episodes on it are actually those of disk 1, volume 1. A clear case of a disc painted with the wrong image. So, how many other people paid good money for a full season box-set and ended up missing "Letters From Pegasus, The Gift, The Siege [parts 1 & 2]" and being stuck with a useless 2'nd copy of "Rising, Hide & Seek, and Thirty Eight Minutes" ???
