Book Description

Jan. 31 2012
When the American Lunar colony was threatened, he served his country in battle. But when high ranking officers betrayed him and his soldiers, he had only one choice—rebellion. Now Sergeant Ethan Stark is in charge of a rebel organization he never intended to create, and the United States has just joined forces with its former enemy to insure his destruction.

Stark has no intention of compromising his honor, even in the face of impossible odds. He and his soldiers have no desire to fight American forces, but they are willing to pay any price to defend the rights of the colonists they were sent to protect. Now Stark and his soldiers must fend off deadly aggression from their own country without igniting a full scale civil war.

Jack Campbell (or John G Hemry which is his actual name) spins another space opera, this time on the moon, in this the third book in the Starks War trilogy (the others being Stark's War and Stark's Command).

Stark is the commander on the moon although he still reports to the senior civilian position. The USA on Earth appears adamant that they retake the Moon base and keep sending more sophisticated deployments to do that. The latest being autonomous "robot" like creations.

Can Stark defeat someone without a soul ?

Can the Moon base be successfully defended if the USA on Earth sends all their resources ?

What about the unrest on Earth with what is happening there ?

Campbell wraps up this trilogy in eminent fashion.

Well developed characters. Nicely evolving story line. Well worth the time to read.

RECOMMENDED series and author.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant story Dec 29 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A good friend loaned me the book. At first I didn't plan to read it. The cover and comments on the back of the book indicated it was just one more book with a focus on lots of fighting. I ended up being pleasantly surprised.
This is the third and final book in a series about some Americans up on the moon. Stark leads the military and is working with American colonists. Some nasty things have been happening to them. There is lots of excitement. There is lots, and lots of fighting. We have a sneak raid, a double cross, a threat from a new deadly weapon, and an internal rebellion.
In some ways this book is similar to the Moon is a Harsh Mistress, but much more emphasis on lots of fighting, with less details about the politics and other issues of a colony on the moon.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "lieutenant"? Jan. 9 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Stark is a character that is tough to forget. I read this series about one year ago and was just checking for an update to see if Stark would fight again. (See, I can't forget him).
His unswerving sense of ethics and ability to keep his troops together is reminiscient of L. Ron Hubbard's Lieutenant in Final Blackout. Great characterization and a fascinating story. I will read anything that comes out by John Hemry in the future.
