Like the previous poster said. The first hour of this movie is awesome. Johnny's back. The bugs are back. Even wicked new bugs!! The action is awesome and non-stop. All the violence and gore from the first one is here too!
Then...the second half of the movie begins or as I would call it...your Sunday school lessions. Some of the troopers find religion...one even things he has found god among the bugs. Some of the troopers don't believe but slowly get converted and they take care of the bug problem with a new toy developed by the federation R&D. The Marauder suit. If you've seen the cartoon or have the role-playing game then you will know what I'm talking about. But alas...even the new suit can't save this movie and in the end, the war goes on but with the Federation accepting god and yeah...don't know what else to say. Major let down! :(

i agree most part with everyone else that the ending was weak. but c'mon this movie is "an after dinner mint" to wash the horrible after taste to its predecessor "starship troopers 2:hero of the federation" any fan of the series would probably agree!

Casper Van Dien and Jolene Blalock should be embarassed as well as whoever greenlit this one. I can't believe anyone actually liked this movie. It was made in 2008 but you'd think by seeing the special effects that it was made in the 80's.
And to say the plot was weak would be a gross understatement. The characters were completely inconsistent with themselves, flip flopping from good to bad, and bad to good. Apart from Casper Van Dien and Jolene Blalock's characters it was hard to tell who the good guys were supposed to be. There's no satisfying resolution to many of the key plot points. At times it was so cheesy it was nearly unwatchable. I found myself embarassed for the actors. I think what I'm most disappointed about is the fact that I kept watching it and hoping it would get better. It didn't. Quite the opposite in fact. Do yourself a favor and avoid this one at all costs. The first one was fun, this one should have never been made. I hope they fire the 10 year old that wrote it. And I hope Jolene has a career after this disaster...
