Product Description

Product Description

Rather than deal with the problems he was facing as a recent college grad, Paul Jury decided to leave them in his rearview mirror. He might not have known the direction his life was headed, but he knew the route he was taking to hit all forty-eight contiguous states on one epic road trip.

Filled with plenty of adventure and the unforeseen obstacle (or twelve), States of Confusion puts you in shotgun to see where the road takes Paul. All he knows - after crashing on the beer-soaked couch of his younger brother's frat - is that there's no going back.

About the Author

Paul Jury graduated from Northwestern University and headed on a road trip before finally getting a gig as a writer in LA. Now, he writes and produces viral videos, and runs a tutoring program for kids looking to make the leap to college.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but sloppy Oct 12 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a light read, certainly. The story was interesting but I found that it lacked the genuine personality I look for in memoir-type books. Additionally, there seemed to be some editing errors (e.g. a missing period here or there, a spelling error or two), which seemed odd for a published book, even when one considers that the author is writing in his own voice. Perhaps this was merely a printing error. I'm certainly not qualified to be a book editor, but these mistakes were distracting and made the book seem a bit sloppy. An average book overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Graduation Present May 12 2011
By Jurok - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I love reading an author's first book because it's always so fresh and novel. This book was certainly that. It's a hysterical blend of back-road America and a young man finding direction after graduating from college. I'm sure we all felt a bit lost as graduation approached, and this book gives a humorous perspective that everyone can relate to. Therefore, it makes a perfect present for anyone graduating this spring or summer.
I bought it for the student I mentor and he loved it, so I had to order a bunch more for his friends. A very uplifting story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colby7 May 8 2011

Highly recommend this book! Touching and hilarious, couldn't put it down. I got this as as gift for my brother who is graduating this year and he really liked it, and ended up getting a few copies for his classmates. The author does a great job of putting into words feelings so many of us have during that uncertain time in our life, and he does it with humor and vulnerability.

Great book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Generation gap May 22 2012
By Librarian - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am not as enthusiastic over this book as so many of the other reviewers, perhaps because I am older than they. While the book is well-written (also well-formatted and a Kindle freebie), I could not relate to the angst of what to me seemed to be an over-indulged, self-obsessed young college-graduate, touring the country to find himself, seeing very little but writing daily blogs about it [SPOILER ALERT], treating his long-suffering girlfriend with disdain and dumping her over the telephone, and finally moving to LA to become a writer (where he still acts like an immature undergrad)--as if, by this point, we still care. At least that's how this seems to someone of an earlier generation whose view of life, inter-personal relationships, and the work ethic are obviously different from this gentleman's. And apart from his search for self and his desire to find his place in this world (as must we all), the book is unsatisfying as a travelogue and is hardly exemplary as anything else. I did not care for it. [UPDATE: Since I wrote the above I notice it is no longer free. I would certainly not recommend paying ten dollars for it.]
