5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the Spoons' best work March 31 2011
By Barry70
Format:Audio CD
Wow, this is fantastic. I've listened to it several times since downloading on the release date. I don't have a favourite song yet, but overall I was blown away by not only how good it is, but by how emotionally moving it gets, both lyrically and musically (the latter being quite a feat). I was near tears a few times. (On public transit. How embarrassing. Thanks a lot!)

It's not just good ... it's Arias-good. It's like taking the inspired creativity of the Spoons' early work and adding 30 years of experience and maturity. Great work by everyone involved.

It might be the best work the Spoons have produced. It's a significant accomplishment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome return! May 5 2011
By LA Dan
Format:Audio CD
Spoons have been around in one form or another for over 30 years now. It's been 21 years since their last proper studio album release of new material (they have released 2 greatest hits compilations and a Cd of unreleased material from the period of '84-'86). What a welcome return this is! From the catchy music, thoughtful and insightful lyrics, and great sonics and production on the album - everything here is far from static or lacking in it's transmission. There is a real sense of energy/creativity and "realness" on this album that is so lacking in music today. While not really a proper "concept album", there is a central theme of communication in the songs and the albums artwork: Hint - 2 bonus songs can be downloaded if you solve the artwork's riddles. Gord Deppe, Sandy Horne, and Producer Jeff Carter, convey a real passion in this project - pulling from the Classic Spoons sound of the '80's and making it relevant and modern for today's audiences.

While certain songs for me stand out and would fit in perfectly on today's AC/Alternative radio - Imperfekt, End of Story, B Movie, Star Maps, and the lead single, You Light Up, this album plays best when listening from start to finish as a whole.

So put on your headphones or earbuds, pop this one on, and spend the evening decoding the many, many fun codes on the CD's artwork. When was the last time you got this interactive with an album?

5.0 out of 5 stars Spoons tunes for the 21st century Feb. 4 2013
By Ian D
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A great new contemporary pop rock sound for my favourite 80's new wave band. After a long hiatus, original Spoons members Gord and Sandy were clearly inspired by their growing fan resurgence as they began performing around Southern Ontario since the turn of the century, and have turned out a first class collection of memorable new tracks that sit right alongside their original works in terms of quality, lyrics and energy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Escape With You ... Feb. 27 2015
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a very good return disc from The Spoons. It's fun, well recorded and a breath of fresh air. Gord & Sandy still doing it! Breaking In, Imperfekt, You Light Up are all fantastic, and Escape With You with Sandy taking over lead vocals is one of her best songs ever, I'd say. I had the good fortunate to see them play live upon the release of this disc and the songs here sound just as good live.
Pick it up, I think many would be pleasantly surprised.
