Genius of the Bizarre,
By
This review is from: Ste Hpd 1-11 (Audio CD)
This is a really special release. There was a time when projects of this type were undertaken regularly by record companies, once upon a time (the 80's and early 90's?) when early music was hot, hot, hot and the powers that be (or were) were willing to release extravagant productions revolving around little-known composers. Well, thankfully, we have Glossa who still continue to record and produce CD's of some more or less unknown composers. I can only wonder how many of these CD's they think they'll sell these days, but their commitment to the cause is heartily welcomed! This set, to my humble ears, is an unqualified success. The music is outstanding in every way. When one takes a look at the booklet and the list of tracks, one might be put off by the seeming repetition. Interestingly, there isn't that much repetition here. The individual suites are, quite literally, individual. Meyerson is superb! The production is quite lavish and very handsome. No wonder this guy was one of Bach's favorite composers (although it's sort of sad that one feels the need to mention this as a means to "sell" G. Bohm). Highly recommended to all harpsichord freaks, early music buffs and people who can hear the quiet in all the noise of this modern, obnoxious world. Bravo Glossa! You're a class act!
