Product Description

Book Description

This introductory text assumes little prior scientific knowledge on the part of the student. It includes sufficient information for some shorter introductory botany courses open to both majors and nonmajors, and is arranged so that certain sections can be omitted without disrupting the overall continuity of the course. Stern emphasizes current interests while presenting basic botanical principles.

About the Author

In late 1999/early 2000, Kingsley Stern and McGraw-Hill Publishers initiated a search to find scientists to join the author team for Stern's Introductory Plant Biology. After nearly three decades of publishing this successful textbook, it was clear to Dr. Stern and the people at McGraw-Hill that new botanists would help to further enrich the content and continue the dedication and hard work needed for future editions. Jim Bidlack received a B.S. Degree in Agronomy, with a Soil & Crop Option, from Purdue University in 1984 and continued his education with a Master's Degree in Crop Physiology at the University of Arkansas in 1986. Shelley H. Jansky received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin--Stevens Point in 1982, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Plant Breeding and Plant Genetics from the University of Wisconsin--Madison in 1984 and 1986, respectively. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars High supply high price?, Dec 28 2011
By Mr. College "Josh" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Stern's Introductory Plant Biology (Hardcover)
This is a comment on the high used price of this book. There are over 79 used copies and the lowest price is $100.

By the time people buy the book on the fifth page priced at $300, our division chair will have selected a new book for botany instruction. The only old texts we teachers tend to use are the Lab Manuals or such the like, so it will be pretty much worthless, unless another school continues to use it.

1.0 out of 5 stars for non-science majors, Feb 18 2011
By Jonathan Doak "average joe" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Stern's Introductory Plant Biology (Hardcover)
ok i had to use this book for a college class. my professor is hard to understand so i am using this book a lot. The reason I rated this book is 1 star is they will give you a term and then not explain it whatsoever (not all terms are like this but a key few). i think this book could have been written way better.
