VIDEO:

Steve Winwood - Live In Concert was one episode of the PBS concert series Soundstage, originally released on DVD in 2005. This blu ray disc came with 1080i AVC/MPEG-4 1.78:1 encode. This concert was directed by the same Joe Thomas, who directed Chicago - Live In Concert. Compared to Chicago blu ray disc, this video is very average. (3/5)

AUDIO:

The DTS HD-Master Audio 5.1 was also unspectacular. Enough said (3/5)

CONCERT & SONG LISTING:

When Steve Windwood - Live In Concert (blu ray) was first announced to be released, I was overjoyed, thinking that finally, we have a decent Greatest Hits concert package from Steve Winwood in blu ray. The song listing was not listed then.

When I finally received the disc, I was truly very disappointed. The concert apparently was to promote his 2005 album About Time, which failed to chart. It lasted only 55 minutes! There were a few songs from his Traffic days, one from Blind Faith, and crying out loud, only ONE from his solo days: Back In The High Life Again. Missing are the rest of his solo hits, like: While You See A Chance, Arc Of A Diver, Valerie, Higher Love, The Finer Things, Hold On, Roll With It, and Don't You Know What The Night Can Do? You are dreaming if you think songs from his Spencer Davis Group days are included...no way!

The details of the song listing:

From the album About Time (2005):
Bully
Different Light
Walking On
Why Can't We Live Together

From Traffic:
Dear Mr.

Winwood at his finest sharing his wide repertoire, my favorites from Traffic and Blind Faith, some of his solo work. His band is mostly who he currently tours with. One for your video collection.

Only the 'not so popular' songs are included in this disc.

Steve Windwood is a talented composer and singer.

Perhaps he didn't know what were to be included before this disc was released.

What a waste!

A splendid performance Dec 8 2011

This is the same concert released in DVD format around 2006, no new tunes, no extra material, no interviews, no bonuses. Now, there may not be much difference in sound quality between DVD and BR, you'd need either to be quite young, to (still) have very good hearing or own a super Hi-Fi set to notice any significant improvement. But the full HD video makes the whole difference. Be aware though, there's no cheap way to remove all the imperfections of the master video tape and surely this transfer didn't attempt to do it. The picture is extremely grainy in many parts and throughout the concert you get different color temperatures coming from the stage lights (from bluish at the beginning to red-orange near the end). But this is an old show so what would you expect. I already had the DVD and now I bought the BR disc happily. This is one of my favorites taped performances and I'm glad they finally put it out on Blu Ray.

Wow, just wow!!! This is excellent. Five skilled musicians at the peak of the game and enjoying themselves. Lots of attention to acoustics and the stage is beautiful. Audio is crystal clear and well mixed. Solid camera work. I highly recommend!

I was a little apprehensive as to the date of this recording.
Taken from the Album "About Time".
Coined by Eric Clapton as one of the best performers ever!
Abeit a little short in tracks this Blu-ray will not disappoint.

good dvd/show, but very short Feb. 17 2012

First off - I love Steve Winwood, especially his stuff with Traffic and his newest album - Nine Lives. So I really enjoyed most of the songs on this DVD. The picture quality is obviously 1080p. DTS sound is available and is superb. However, this is a very short set. I can't believe they put out a DVD that's only about as long as a 45 minutes long. I probably wouldn't have paid as much if I would've known this.

Track listing: Can't find my way Home, Empty Pages, Bully, Glad, Freedom Rider, Back in the High Life (ugh), Dear Mr. Fantasy, and Why Can't we Live Together. All very short versions, to the point, with very little jamming.
