  • Grilled jalapeño peppers are so tasty, nobody can eat just one. The Steven Raichlen pepper rack holds 18 peppers standing straight up so cheese and other stuffings stay inside the pepper while grilling. The serrated edge of the pepper corer cuts off the top of the pepper and scoops out the pulp with just a twist. Recipe card included.

fine product Jan. 13 2011

Works great, easy to clean. Good feature is the fact that the holes are in a line (unlike other brands), which makes it easier to skewer the chiles to hold them in place. When shopping for chiles, buy ones that will drop down into the hole easily, and try to choose straight ones, which are easier to ream out.

Pepper Roasting Rack July 31 2011

I had seen similar racks in use on a trip to the southwest and was going to purchase one in a shop. My host commented that She had gotten hers from Amazon for half the cost and I would not have the inconvenience of packing the rack for the trip home.
She was right - This rack is well made of stainless steel, durable, and has the added advantage of coming with a tool to core the seeds from the peppers. I made some jalapeno poppers, and some hot hungarian peppers on the grill last night and this rack worked as advertised. This rack would probably also work with banana peppers or any similar shaped pepper. Holds the peppers upright and allows the heat to roast the pepper evenly in about a half hour on a Weber with the lid closed (Grill was already hot from other grilling). I barbecued pork steaks and when I put them in the roasting pan of sauce to tenderize, I started the peppers. By the time I had them cleaned, stuffed, and cooked - the meat was also ready to serve. The rack also functions as a work stand while stuffing the peppers!

works as advertised Jan. 9 2010

Works very well. I prefer to wrap my bacon around the outside of the pepper and that does not fit as well. The holes are indeed a bit large for your typical pepper, but my local grocery has big peppers so that is not a problem for me.

Smokin' March 21 2011

Works great! The cheese doesn't run out of the pepper halves the way I used to cook them (sliced lengthwise). The corer makes this so simple. The only drawback is cleaning. Directions say NOT to put in the dishwasher. It's not terrible to clean when used on the gas grill, but the smoker is a different story, hence only 4 stars. I think I'll try rubbing it with oil prior to using next time. Makes Great jalapeno poppers.

Decent product Dec 8 2012

I own a similar product and bought this as a gift for a friend. The material is not as thick as the one I currently have but mine is overkill. This one is more than adequate for its purpose and is good quality. I would definitely recommend. I find the 18-hole model to be the right size although I've been tempted to get a larger one.

The corer will only work for relatively large fat peppers but it seems to do a good job with those. It takes a little bit of practice. I use a particular knife that, through trial and error, I found to work best on all sizes of peppers.

As for those complaining about the holes not being the right size - get over it and use toothpicks to hold the peppers in place. I've made hundreds of poppers over the past several years, and most of them will fall through these holes. Even the larger peppers that initially fit, will fall through because they shrink during cooking. The toothpicks also make it easier to pick them up to eat.
