Well written, well thought-out and well characterized by Louise Penny as always.Mystery set in the two solitudes of Quebec. Good read and good bargain.

Not impressed...,

This review is from: Still Life (Paperback)
Being out of reading material, a rare situation for me, I picked up this book in thelocal drug store, not knowing this author but rather intrigued by reviews on back and inside cover, I decided to give it a chance. Sorry to say I'm not impressed. Too many one dimensional characters, a muddled plot and overly descriptive content. I appreciate the Canadian setting but have to admit, I prefer Lisa Scottaline and Janet Evanovich to mention just two, any day... Their writing is easy, entertaining and doesn't bring on a headache. So far this book has proven to be a waste of money... However, I'll plug along with the reading of the book, aspirin at the ready, hoping it will improve.

wonderful novel,

This review is from: Still Life (Paperback)
This novel is written with the bilingual, bicultural aspect of the Québécois life in mind. It is narrated with emotions and very delightful; the characters have depth and are compassionate. This mystery is very engaging and Inspector Gamache is destined for stardom....can't wait to read the next novel in this series.
