"Still Waters is both an assured debut in the mystery category and offbeat in the charming way only a newbie can be ... If anything, Moss' character-driven writing in Still Waters reminds me of the involving work of the British write Reginal Hill in the famed Dalziel and Pascoe series." (Eric McMillan, Town-Crier )
Moss skillfully enlarges his story to make it more than a murder mystery: it is a life mystery .... This too is a powerful novel.
(Star Phoenix, The )"…John Moss weaves a most unusual plot connecting the past and the present. He produces unexpected events and hints of secrets hidden in the minds of his characters."

Morgan and Miranda,
By Canadian mystery reader "Belva" (Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Still Waters: A Quin and Morgan Mystery (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved reading this mystery. The humour and relationship between the detectives, Miranda and Morgan, really added an important layer to the case they were working on. I also enjoyed the Ontario landscape and Toronto scenes. I thought the process they went through to solve the case was realistic without any great need for CSI stuff. I also liked the way the tension built. About half way through, I couldn't put it down and ended up reading far into the night. I've already ordered the next one, Grave Doubts.

The first in a series based in Toronto. This is not normally my type of book: too much navel gazing, philosophizing, word games. Yet I found this novel amazing. The leads are not yet fully fleshed out, but you know it's because you have not known them long enough. The mystery, while essential to the way the book unfolds is still almost incidental. Can't wait to find the second book.
