This review is from: Stone's Lament (Audio CD)
A reclusive billionaire living on an isolated world. A mysterious artefact in need of investigation. Welcome to another odd little tale from the world of Bernice Summerfield, this time from the pen of BBC special effects expert and novelist Mike Tucker.
Notable for having the obligatory mini cast featured in Benny's second season (and for featuring the first audio appearance of future cast regular, Adrian Wall), it's starts off as an efficient, Scooby-Do for grown-ups but by the time you realise what's actually going on, it has already turned into something rather unsettling.
Though Mr Tucker was responsible for one of Big Finish's better Dalek stories 'The Genocide Machine', I'd actually rather listen to the subtle menace on offer in 'The Stone's Lament', which keeps up the generally high standard of Benny's first couple of seasons. The cast are all excellent and the sound design is convincingly spooky.
If you enjoy slipping on a good pair of headphones and settling into a comfortable chair by the fire, this is for you.
