Book Description

Sep 12 2006
Make peace with food and break free from yo-yo dieting and compulsive eating forever.

Why do 90 percent of even the most resolute dieters fail over the long term? Why do some people binge on ice cream when they experience stress? Sometimes food cravings can be so consuming that they feel like an uncontrollable addiction. But as Dr. Balasa L. Prasad explains in Stop Overeating for Good, there is no such thing as an addiction to food. If you want to stop overeating for good, the answer is in your mind, not your body. Only when you understand the psychological triggers that are really driving your overeating, can you permanently curb your cravings.

With Dr. Prasad's proven and practical six-step program readers will:

- identify their addictive profile with an insightful questionnaire
- understand why they use food as a crutch and why they must stop
- turn off obsessive thoughts about food
- learn to avoid the temptations and pitfalls that lure them back to overeating
- change their relationship with food forever

1.0 out of 5 stars Just common sense. Oct 31 2007
Format:Paperback
This book was awful. If you're looking for a new plan to stop overeating, this is not it. It is common sense. He tells you to think before you eat and keep a journal. The same things that every other diet plan will tell you. After a ton of useless stories about his patients, he finally gets to the "plan". It is interesting to take his little quizzies to find out your underlying issues, but there is no guidance really on what to do with that information. Not worth the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars He's never had a food addiction; he doesn't GET IT! Mar 7 2008
By J. Teel - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I agree with the previous poster.

The writer of this book does not GET IT at all.
He has an 'arrogant-ness' regarding food addictions.
NOPE, he does NOT understand the struggle for many
of us.

(For instance, with the evening, after supper, continual snacking,
even though we know better and are disappointed with
ourselves in the morning...yet we continue doing it!)
~The BLT's~Bites Licks Tastes~

He has never had a problem with overeating;
he does not understand what having an unhealthy
relationship with food is all about.

I am glad I got the book from the library so I could
return it!

One of my FAVORITE weight loss books is:
"Getting There Staying There" by Jennifer Klein.

It is her personal success story of losing 70 pounds and keeping
it off...she explains us 'over-eaters' have a defective hunger meter and we have to learn to control it manually. (This book is filled with lots of helpful advice; none of those filler pages of recipes!)

Don't waste your money on this one. Check out Geneen Roth's books for real help with emotional eating.
4.0 out of 5 stars i like it May 31 2011

Format:Paperback
if you are serious about changing, you have to internalize the material. believe that the problem is emotional and take his test on drives to find out the biggest obstacle. i am certainly giving it a try, following the first rule to write it down.
