Book Description

April 10 2012
Most abusers display warning signs that intelligent women miss--mostly because the majority of women have not been trained to recognize them. In this groundbreaking book, Lynn Fairweather--an expert in the field of intimate partner violence response and prevention--provides women with the information they need to recognize dangerous men "before" they become victims of abuse.
Educational and empowering, "Stop Signs" exposes the discernable attributes, tactics, and deterrents of abusers, arming women with the tools they need to choose a safe and loving partner. In the first section, Fairweather familiarizes readers with the topic of intimate partner violence and explains how to develop the combination of self-esteem, preparation, and assertive awareness that can protect women from involvement with abusive individuals; in the second section, she explores the minds of abusers, explaining what visible signs of danger are present in their attitudes and actions; and in the last section, she provides women with effective strategies for safe extraction should they find themselves involved with an abuser.
A go-to manual for women everywhere, "Stop Signs" contains the life-saving information needed by anyone who is living with abuse, knows someone who is, or wishes to avoid becoming involved in a potentially life-threatening relationship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worthy of Praise Sep 14 2012
By Det. David Williams - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Ms. Fairweather has crafted an excellent guidebook for anyone wanting to avoid the nightmare of domestic violence or to finally make a safe escape. She's lived with intimate partner violence, and she's clearly grown stronger from the experience. In Stop Signs, Ms. Fairweather shares that experience, as well as the lessons she learned in the trenches of shelters, police agencies, and courts. This translates into simple, step-by-step approaches to help potential and current victims recognize the danger signs, find the resolve the stop the destructive process, and take effective action to live full, free lives. Three cheers to her and to Seal Press for a job well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book should be in every high school library May 16 2012
By Dr. Roger weeks - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent resource for women, especially young women looking for or at their first relationship. It details the way to test the health of new and existing relationships; and how to safely exit those that are of a toxic nature. The resources listed in the book include helpful information for women in every state in the union. I would highly recommend that multiple copies of "Stop Signs" be placed in every high school library in the country.

I haven't been in any physically abusive relationship, but this book really helped me notice unacceptable behavior in all types of relationships. Additionally, I've lent it to some friends who have had issues. I highly recommend this book: It's a very entertaining read. My husband was a little concerned when I stayed up almost all night, 3 nights in a row, to finish it. Very thoughtful, insightful, and real: You will not regret this purchase.
