3.0 out of 5 stars Storey's Guide to Training Horses, 2nd Edition: Ground Work * Driving * Riding, July 29 2011
Not what I thought it would be. Maybe I have become too comfortable with the Pat Parelli, Jonathan Fields and Clinton Anderson way of training.

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid reference any who want to raise horses should embrace, April 17 2010
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Storey's Guide to Raising Horses 2nd Edition (Paperback)
A horse is a beautiful creature, but it needs it own special sort of care. "Storey's Guide to Raising Horses: Breeding, Care, Facilities" is a care guide from Heather Smith Thomas, who has over five decades of experience in her field. In this manual, she discusses the nuances of horse care, such as hoof care, day to day life, foals, fencing, and even discusses greener horse raising in regards to the environment. "Storey's Guide to Raising Horses" is a solid reference any who want to raise horses should embrace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raising Horses & Training Horses are two different books!, Jan 4 2012
By M. Worley - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Storey's Guide to Raising Horses 2nd Edition (Paperback)
Be careful about selecting Storey's Guide to Raising Horses versus Storey's Guide to Training Horses. These are two different books by the same author.

'Raising Horses' has great information about stabling and pasturing horses which includes why horses are more comfortable in a herd situation, etc. It also includes information about nutrition and health issues.

'Training Horses' does not include any of the above information but covers safety issues, ground work, preparing horses for vet exams & farriers, introducing a horse to saddling & riding, etc.

Unfortunately, Amazon.com is treating these two books as if they are the same and since I checked one out from the library and I own the other, I wanted to warn buyers so that they can get what they actually need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book review, Feb 1 2011

This review is from: Storey's Guide to Training Horses, 2nd Edition: Ground Work * Driving * Riding (Paperback)
I found this book very helpfull and enjoyable to read (easy read). It is wrote for a someone who knows little about horses, which is what I am. I plan to use many of the techniques and as in all help books it is trial and error to see what works with animals. I was very happy that the safty issue was put on such a high level, since these are big boys I am dealing with. This is a must read for all begginers.
The book arrived before the date and was in excellent condition, way to go Amazon!
