4.0 out of 5 stars Age Appropriate for the Topic, Mar 30 2011
By LibraryThingReviewer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Strutting It!: The Grit Behind the Glamour (Paperback)
Strutting It does what no other book on modeling (that I know of) does: It targets its information to the age group where many (if not most) high fashion models start their careers. (Roughly 13 - 15ish)

It also strips the glamor out of the models life for us to see. While it doesn't try to deny that flying to international locals, wearing cutting-edge clothes, and being photographed can't or shouldn't be viewed as a fascinating lifestyle, it also lays bare how rare this aspect of the life is, how exhausting shoots can be, and the unreliability of the paychecks (the forward is especially good for this reality check).

By doing these two things, this book makes itself invaluable to young people considering a career in modeling. Add to that the discussion of modeling careers for people who aren't tall, thin, and gorgeous (hand modeling, plus-size modeling, local modeling) and you get a well-rounded book aimed at exactly the age group modeling agencies often look for.

While I would like more emphasis given to how scammers can pray on a young person's, or anyone's. quixotic desire for the perceived model lifestyle, this is still an excellent primer on the topic. It's not a celebration of models or a condemnation: just useful info from those who know.
