"Retaining the majesty of language with the clarity of thought, the English Standard Version is a grand accomplishment." Dr. Ravi Zacharias, Author and Speaker "The ESV is the text I have been waiting for my entire life. I appreciate greatly both its fluency of language and its lucidity of expression, thanks to the brilliant work of the translation team. We owe them a very great debt." Rev. Ranald Macaulay, Christian Heritage, The Round Church, Cambridge "After preaching out of the same version for over 10 years, I switched to the ESV Bible. I find it both accurate and easily readable, which is a rare combination." Francis Chan, Author of Crazy Love "I thank God for the ESV. It combines up-to-date accuracy in the text and absolute faithfulness to the words of Scripture with a literary skill and beauty in the translation which, in my judgment, is unsurpassed." Eric J. Alexander, Retired Pastor, St. George's-Tron Parish Church, Scotland "At last a translation that majors on accuracy, combined with a modern, fluent style. I am confident that in time the ESV will become the standard translation for the English-speaking world." The Rt. Rev. Wallace Benn, Bishop of Lewes, England --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Really happy that Amazon has these in stock and I always get them on the 2nd day. Have bought over 3 of these for my friends and they are all happy with it.
The Study Notes are definitely good. There are a ton of maps, charts and illustrations as well to aid you in your Bible Study.
NOTE: If you wish to have this Bible as a reference tool and you are going to leave this at home most of the time, buy the hard cover version. It costs less and is worth the money if you're not constantly going to turn its pages. If it's going to be your number one Bible where you will be taking it out and using it a lot, I suggest you pay the extra money and get the leather bound Bible. Leather is more durable than the Hard Cover if the Bible is going to be used a lot.
Also, there are some awesome Articles & Resources you get at the back of the original ESV Study Bible (larger in size - [....]) that you don't have in the print version of the ESV Study Bible, Personal Size. To reduce the Bible's size, they have included it as an online resource. So if you want those articles with you, in your Bible, where ever you go, think about getting the ESV Study Bible (link above) instead of the ESV Study Bible, Personal Size.Read more ›
- Very readable font
- Great articles, charts. At the risk of sounding prideful, which I hope I don't... For a bible college grad the study notes are sometimes... elementary? However the charts, outlines, and articles provide great insights and reminders!
- Bible opens flat, and closes flat. At this point the bible is fairly new and stays open in Genesis after the pages were separated (a few chapters in of course).
- The leather is much much nicer than the "genuine leather" options offered by Crossway (I had the ESV personal size study bible before this). Cover has the softness and suppleness of good trutone bibles, but breathes much nicer and (imo) has much nicer quality.
- It's a big book, about as thick as the diameter of a 12oz/355mL Coke can. The length is about two Coke cans long, and the width is just under 1 1/2 Coke cans long. No I'm not drinking a Coke right now... Ok it's a Sprite.
- I guess some reviewers have said this fullsized study bible is quite weighty, but it's actually not bad. (Although holding my ESV thinline right afterwards feels like holding a feather so maybe it is heavy after all...)
The ESV text: I've spent most of my life reading a translation that is admittedly more readable (ie, more like reading a newspaper article) than the ESV. But that's not to say the ESV is hard to understand. Far from it! There are some passages I understand better for having read them in the ESV. And if words, as well as thoughts, are important (and I believe Jesus said they are, in Matthew 5) it's good to have access to an "essentially literal" translation like the ESV.
The book itself: It's not small, and it's not light. I cannot imagine too many people holding it in their hands to read. This is definitely a tabletop book! But the text (both the Bible text and that of the study notes) is easy to read. My 50-plus year old eyes have no trouble reading this study Bible.
The price: I still can't get over the fact that I was able to have such an invaluable resource as this hardcover ESV Study Bible delivered to my door for approximately $40 plus tax! This ESV Study Bible is a library in itself. In terms of quality and value, it's second to none in my opinion.
