Product Description

From Amazon.ca

Stührling Original is proud to present its latest offering in a skeleton mechanical automatic…the Winchester Grand. This exquisite timepiece is anchored by the same reliable 20-jewel mechanical automatic movement (cal. ST-90089) as previously seen in two of Stührling’s all-time best selling timepieces (Delphi & Alpine), only this time this star movement exhibits even more detailing and hand engraving than ever before! The simple three-hand movement with the well proportioned onion style crown and the blue Dauphine style hour and minute hands makes for a reliable and eye-catching timepiece that is never out of place. The engraved scrollwork faceplate on the movement makes for a stunning look while the grooved flange gives some semblance of indices and serves as a reminder that this is after all a timepiece! The large 44mm round case is constructed of solid 316L surgical grade stainless steel and is finished so elegantly with its beveled polish bezel. The Krysterna™ crystal on top is domed and the flat Krysterna™ crystal fixed into the screw-in case-back is extra large for ease of viewing all the way through the Winchester Grand. The backside view is truly spectacular with the skeletonized and hand-engraved rotor being the star attraction. The Winchester Grand is 50 meters water resistant and is mounted on a geniune leather strap with crocodile embossing. If you are going to wear a mechanical timepiece why not show it off with a skeletonized dial for everyone to see? Every watch collector needs at least one skeleton mechanical watch in their collection, so be sure to consider the Winchester Grand from Stührling Original, the latest and greatest in our rich collection of skeleton mechanical timepieces!

Product Description

With dedication to the heritage of Swiss watchmaking, Stuhrling Original timepieces appeal to the most discriminating taste at reasonable prices. The company has roots dating back to the 1800's when Switzerland emerged as the global leader in watchmaking. Stuhrling Original remains committed to its mission of preserving the high standards set in Switzerland manufacturing all of their fine timepieces in their Swiss-owned factory! Each and every model conveys an inimitable story with extraordinary style. You'll find heirloom selections for both men and women that even the most astute watch collector will cherish and admire.

In the workshops of Stuhrling Original, the unit specializing in mechanical movements, component selection, assembly, lubrication, adjustment and testing creates horological wonders entirely under vigilant attention of Swiss ownership and supervision. It is these workshops that produce the mechanical engines that are famous for meeting the highest existing criteria in there category. Starting with the main plate, the assembly process is performed in several consecutive stages up until anchoring the balance spring, which sets the watch into motion. Assembling a Stuhrling Original mechanical automatic movement comprises no less than 30 checkpoints, spread throughout the assembly process. Adjusting the angle of lift of the pallets, centering the balance-spring, poising the balance are just a few examples of these checkpoints; of which all are designed to enhance the performance of each movement. The movement must meet no less than seven criteria, including a mean variation in rate which is the highest standard in the industry in its class.

Stuhrling Original cases are distinguished by their technical complexity, their high-end aesthetic appeal and the quality of their finish. The watch cases are made from antimagnetic 316L surgical grade stainless steel, an extremely sophisticated alloy designed to stand up to intensive use. The rough parts, known as "middlecases" are blanked from a metal bar using a high-performance press. They then undergo eight successive stamping operations of a strength increasing gradually from 20 to 85 tons. Before each swaging operation, the middlecase is refired at a temperature of 1100 degrees Celsius, so as to temporarily reduce the hardness to a total stamping pressure of more than 400 tons. Finishing the cases then calls for fifteen polishing operations, all performed by hand alternating with nine baths guaranteeing immaculate cleanliness. Other components of the cases, such as rotating bezels or rider tabs also require a meticulous finish. The components of the cases are finally assembled by hand and rigorously tested.

Each Stuhrling Original dial has been designed to enable optimal read-off at a glance, while adding an element of artistic design. Stuhrling Original's dials are blanked from a brass plate and two cylindrical feet are soldered below to ensure security with the movement. Polishing operations, creating special effects through the use of vintage hydraulic German machines, and electroplating are just some of the more than forty operations required to make most StuhrlingOriginal dials. The transparent protective coating is applied in an immaculately clean environment before the various inscriptions are transfer printed using a gelatin pad which takes an impression from an inked block. On many of the dials the hour markers are either individually applied by hand or embossed into the dial and then topped with a special dye. The application of Super Luminova is performed by artisans with a nozzle pen connected to a high-pressure pipe which calls for intense concentration. Once finished, each dial undergoes careful aesthetic scrutiny under extreme magnification, as well as technical testing, to ensure it complies with all predefined dimensions and specifications.

Through meticulous labor, rigorous testing and examination of each timepiece by expert horologists, the vision of the Stuhrling Original timepiece is brought to life inside our workshops, where...

I should have taken the reviews more seriously.

This watch looks great and I get alot of compliments on it, but I would never buy another Stuhrling again.

It is off by about 3 mins a day.. maybe more.

I bought a watch that I was hoping would be an accurate timepiece.. I can't believe that Amazon still stocks these.

The watch is beautiful & unique. I especially like the fact you you can see the moving parts from both sides through the crystal on the front & back. It keeps perfect time. The only drawback is that the wind up only lasts for a few days. I wind it everytime I wear it with no problems. For a watch I don't wear everyday, I don't mind winding it each time.

Just received the watch a week ago and I'm impressed on every level. It looks great and is perhaps more impressive when you have it in your hands. It has a nice weight and feels solid. I've already whacked it pretty hard a couple of times as I get used to having something on my wrist again, but it didn't have the slightest effect or leave a mark. With regards to the accuracy it seems to gain a minute every few days but that should be remedied with an adjustment. Does the 1 star reviewer believe you can't adjust a mechanical watch?

I am really happpy I bought this watch. It is truely a great looking piece, a real eye catcher. It come in a large orange box complete with manuals, buffing rag and guarantee. The watch is well crafted, with it's decorative front and back plates. The moving parts are well designed which express a sence of engineering marval. The face of this piece is simple and easy to read. The exposed moving parts are very visable and beautfully laid out. They can be mesmerizing. The automatic wined works but remember you must wear the watch for a good portion of you day. The black leather strap is of good quality matetial which adds a nice level of contrast.

If you are looking for a watch which is reasonably priced, looks and works great. This one is for you.

This is the first product I bought from Amazon.ca that I've been truly disappointed with, and I would guess I have purchased 100 items from them. I felt compelled to write my first review so that others do not fall into the trap of buying this watch. I agree with other reviews that while the style is great, it keeps poor time ( even when manually wound to supplement the auto wind ). To adjust the time of course, you have to pull out the crown, which has pulled right out of the watch for me on 2 occasions ( the first being the inaugural setting of the time ). When this happens, the crown assembly has to be delicately nursed back into the watch and aligned. I now have to "baby" the crown on every occasion I adjust the time .... which is frequent. Don't be fooled into buying this watch because it looks like a deal ... it isn't.

The watch stopped working after 2 months. Disappointing since this is past the 30 days for refund or exchange. Extra shipping charges to send to the service centre with Stuhrling. Caution when buying certain brands of watches, read the fine print for warranty.

I love the way this watch looks, feels, etc. But it broke on me in 3 months. It just stopped working, and now I am forced to send it in for warranty... Now this might sound all fine and dandy. But Sturhling's warranty policy is terrible. In terms of, when I ship my watch to them (I pay for shipping to them), they want me to include 40$ (because I am an international customer), in the package, so that they could ship it back to me. Why do I have to pay all that for a product of theirs that broke. I love the Sturhling style, but the company has lost a customer.

This watch feels really heavy and it is quite cheap looking. I would not recommend it to anyone. Very unimpressed.
